    The Whisky thread

So this past year I've switched mostly from beer mainly to whisky. My dad got me hooked with a Buchanan Deluxe blend.

Anyhow, lately I've been enjoying the hell out of this. I can taste why it won best whisky of the year from the Whisky Bible. So smooth and flavorful.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

If you ever find yourself in Texas, you should definitely look this stuff up:

I don't drink much bourbon, but I recently grabbed a bottle of this and was impressed:

The wheat makes it softer and smoother than other bourbons I've tried, and I didn't get as much of a burn (something I'm noticing, perhaps because my palate isn't developed yet, is that bourbons often show the alcohol and can have a real kick; I suppose I'm not used to it as I'm normally more of a scotch guy, although scotch was definitely a love at first sip thing for me). Nice flavors, easy drinking. I left a bottle back home and I'm looking forward to opening it back up when I return (heading back next week!). $37 CAN which is incredible for the quality.

Also, sitting on my desk right now:
Eagle Rare 10 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon (this one feels alcohol heavy, as per my above parenthesis, but the oak flavors are well developed and pleasurable)
Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt Japanese Whisky (this is one of the best NAS whiskeys I've seen in my market, a touch of sweetness, a touch of smoke, it has it all)
The Dalmore 18 Year Old Scotch Whisky (a prized possession, haha)

Also, nice to see you again, Davis!
Giving up in 2020. Who cares.

I've found scotch has wider range of tastes than whiskey (not knocking whiskey, I drink more of it than scotch), so don't give up if you get one you don't like. Everyone raves about Dewars and I think it tastes like shit. Glenlivit might be the easiest smoothest jumping off point for my taste buds. Smooooooth.

I'm not giving up. Took me a long time to develop a taste for bourbon and Rye and now I love them both.

    Ill try a Glenlivit.

There's a great distillery in Park City, Utah called High West. Much of their product is a little too expensive for me to purchase as a bottle, but I am a particular fan of their Bourye (or the inferior, but also exquisite, Son of Bourye), a unique blend of bourbon and rye. My wife and I bought a bottle to commemorate our wedding last year and still haven't found a special enough occasion to warrant opening it.

Also, if you ever get out to Park City, I highly recommend dining at their saloon. Most of their foods--western American fare--are made with their whiskey, and they have some unique cocktails too. Be sure to try the flight.

Well... that Balcones Whisky I recommended is for all intents and purposes a scotch, but since it is not made in Scotland, they need to call it a Single Malt instead.

Bought a really nice mid-tier and highly recommended low-tier whisky last night.

Both are very good. The Old Grand Dad is $15, and it's very good. The Basil Hayden is about $40, and it is exceptional.

Will be reading, although I am not sure I can handle whisky any more, heh. I do still like it, though.

I've got these bottles currently opened. Macallan Amber, Lagavulin and Jim Beam. Like with beer, I wouldn't consider myself an expert, but I do sort of can separate the wheat from the chaff. Lagavulin is very smoky, but I like that in a whisky whereas others don't.

    That Lagavulin is oustanding.

I've gotta try that Old Grand-dad. Not a lot of room in the budget for alcohols lately, so I've been sticking with Evan Williams for the most part, which I enjoy more than my previous cheap go-to, Jim Beam.
