I started getting into whiskey in January and went with the Suntory whiskey that DD posted above. It is incredibly smooth. Next pour finishes it, so I might have to go with the cheap one that DD recommended, since Suntory runs around $40.

I've gotta try that Old Grand-dad. Not a lot of room in the budget for alcohols lately, so I've been sticking with Evan Williams for the most part, which I enjoy more than my previous cheap go-to, Jim Beam.
It is now my go to standard Whisky. I love it.

I'm all about the cheap. Having three kids will do that. This is my go to:

There's a Japanese whisky called Yamazaki that got the award for best in the world not too long ago. My ex-boss is a huge fan of the soccer team River Plate so when they played in Japan he went there and I asked him if he could find out how much a bottle cost. It turned out it was way too expensive, but he brought back like one of those tiny hotel bar bottles and it was heavenly.

It was either a nice gesture or an admission of guilt over how much he was exploiting me. Or both.

I got some new whisky glasses this weekend. Really good for tasting because they funnel the scent straight to the nose.

Oooh such a stern look. I recently bought those glasses too, but I cannot resist drinking it from this one:

That's the Peaky Blinders effect for ya. That's a Lagavulin.

The cup should match the cost.

The Toki one in the squareish shape that you'd posted in August or so on the first page, yes.

Picking up the Ole Grand-dad 80 proof as a replacement to the end of the Toki today...

The regular Suntory. Yeah. That's good. Little known fact. Suntory owns Jim Beam.

I cant believe how good the Old Grandad is for $15. A dash of bitters is really nice in it.

I am absolutely loving that Basil Hayden's bourbon. It is incredible smooth and flavorful. Highly recommended for a nice entry-level bourbon.

I've never had a bad Japanese whisky.
On the other hand, I have maybe had more bad Japanese whisky pass through my system than probably all the good whisky I will ever drink for the rest of my life.

Highly recommended. Small batch from the master distillers at Wild Turkey. Spicy and flavorful.

This is a really nice 12 year scotch I picked up at Trader Joe's yesterday.

A very pleasant and warming whiskey.

The distillery, after decades of operation, has shut down, and the last of its bottles are being sold now in America. Highly recommended. I'm going to pick up another bottle tomorrow night.
