I gotta wonder what did they expected Boyle would do with the material versus what they wanted when they chose to hire him.

Even his most "accessible" work is still pretty stylistically eccentric and tonally off-kilter.

Even the Bond and Queen Elizabeth bit from his 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony was bizarre and comedic!
Yeah, it's always weird to me when directors with strong styles and voices leave franchise projects because of creative differences. Edgar Wright and Ant-Man comes to mind. Like, do these producers do any research on the directors' previous films?

Agreed and its maddening. In that case and this one it feels like just the sort of shake up the material needs.

Very frustrating. Boyle is a wonderful director and I would have liked to have seen his Bond film.

Apparently, the villain has been cast although it remains to be seen whether Saïd Taghmaoui will remain Bond's foe what with the director turmoil.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

Just in time for Maniac, streaming at midnight PST tonight on Netflix!

(I do really like the choice but I do feel like when I watch his new series that the lens of him doing Bond will now be there, which I would've never assumed anything like that before today.)
Last 11 things I really enjoyed:

    Speed Racer (Wachowski/Wachowski, 2008)
    Safe (Haynes, 1995)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (Parker, 1999)
    Beastie Boys Story (Jonze, 2020)
    Bad Trip (Sakurai, 2020)
    What's Up Doc? (Bogdanovich, 1972)
    Diva (Beineix, 1981)
    Delicatessen (Caro/Jeunet, 1991)
    The Hunger (Scott, 1983)
    Pineapple Express (Green, 2008)
    Chungking Express (Wong, 1994)

Rami Malek could be Bond villain. Oscar-winning cinematographer Linus Sandgren will shoot it.

All sounds good to me, even though Craig staying on feels like drifting into Roger Moore hanging on too long territory.

He held on for too long, that's for sure, but some folks age more gracefully. I mean, Tom Cruise is now 1 year younger than Moore was in A View to a Kill.

With rumors about “Bond 25” starting to trickle out, and Daniel Craig set to hang up his tuxedo for good after production wraps, who should be the next person to play 007?
    https://www.indiewire.com/2019/02/ac...ng-1202047287/

Thought this was interesting. Answers include: Idris Elba, Henry Golding, Daniel Kaluuya, Shazad Latif, Dev Patel, Robert Pattinson, and Colin Salmon.

Some of those are ancient such as Colin Salmon who incidentally has been in Bond since 1997's Tomorrow Never Dies.

Surprised there is a mention of Robert Pattinson, but no sign of Richard Madden, a major fave after Bodyguard. Kaluya looks more like a henchman to me. Latif didn't strike me as particularly charismatic in ST: Discovery. Good looks aren't enough or all the cast of Baywatch would have been contenders. Dev Patel might work, Elba is probably the best choice. No Henry Cavill?

This list looks like someone tried to hard to come up with the one choice no one else saw.

Any role of his that made you a believer? Genuinely curious to know.

Arent all brits milky faced? Theres no sun there lol.

I just think hes a good actor, even though I haven't loved any particular role. He had good range in Good Time. I could see him fitting the bill of suave but deadly. After a thicker Bond, the usual flip is to a slender Bond. I like it.

Heres a weird idea: maybe its time to finally embrace the Bond weirdness. Let the next Bond movie start with Daniel Craig cold open, supervising mission with Pattinson. Things go bad. Craig passes title with his dying breath. Pattison renamed Bond and 007. I would enjoy that.

We're talking about a franchise that hired Roger Moore off a TV show and kept him employed for over decade. (Same goes for Pierce Brosnan.)

Bond movies don't require much depth from their leads.

I love Pattinson and because of that, I'd never want to see him stuck in another franchise role. He's far too interesting an actor.

My pick: Kaluuya. He was stone fucking cold in "Widows" and could fill the spot nicely.

I think Bond is more about charisma than acting ability or range.

Before we entered the Craig era, I definitely wouldn't have picked him as Bond, but I think he's done a fairly good job overall. I grew up with Brosnan being my Bond, even if the movies were...uneven in quality. Could see Nicholas Hoult or Karl Urban do well.

I grew up watching Roger Moore on TV, watched The Spy Who Loved Me countless times. Watched some Connery, but at that age didn’t care for him. Then I saw the two Dalton ones and loved them. The dark edge in License to Kill was absolutely wonderful.

Goldeneye was good, as was Tomorrow Never Dies. Then along came Craig, and he’s my Bond.
