Anthology movies are funny to me, because it seems like they either show potential for more, or you merely just shrug it off. As a whole, I don't know if I've ever said that it's effective.
Despite a perceived internet calling for women directors, it's interesting that many of my favorite writers have either ignored this or aren't even aware of it, despite playing at a few festivals. With Kusama and St. Vincent both taking on projects here, it's not like they're just picking random people off the street either. Anyhow...
The Box - SHRUG. Has a David Lynch feeling to it initially, but gets repetitive and predictable. Never hits a note after it sets itself up.
The Birthday Party - POTENTIAL St Vincent's debut I believe, and I'd like to see her take on a full project now. I think it tries to be a little too much in too short of a time, but between some clever ideas, sound design... There's something there with better actors and a better script.
Don't Fall - SHRUG. Predictable. Good effects, but you can see every beat coming. Almost every piece of dialog is predictable too. I feel like this was the worst one.
Her Only Living Son - The best one. It has the short film problem of putting too much investment into the final images instead of being a good full piece, but this is way better than The Invitation that Kusama filmed last year.
Carrillo's stop motion scenes are probably the most unnerving, but I don't really get if they were suppose to mean anything...
