I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

Well, there goes my hopes that Park Chan-wook's production team would get recognized after a decade of stellar design work. Also, Colin Ferrell got denied for Andrew Garfield: meh. Three or four other spots where The Lobster should have completed.

And hopefully Silence's lack of real nods doesn't lead to it disappearing from area theaters on Thursday--it's the one film I still want to see.

Michael Shannon finally getting his first nod is countered by John Goodman's continual denial for three decades of great character work.

(Also, is this the first time Pixar had an eligible film that wasn't even nominated? I mean, shit, didn't even the Cars movies score noms?)

Nope, not the first time. They didn't get any noms in 2011 and 2013 because their only releases were Cars 2 and Monsters University, respectively.

Their star has definitely fallen significantly in the 2010s.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

Lin-Manuel Miranda gets nominated for the "hero" song from Moana even though there are several better songs in the movie...

8 noms for Gibson, including Director... he's obviously back.

Good to see a Kubo nomination for Visual Effects, as well as Doctor Strange.

I wish Arrival would win everything, just so I can read Irish's rant afterwards.

The absence of "Equal Rights" in Best Song is a serious affront to me.

I was going to try to see all the Best Picture nominees, but there is no way I'm sitting through Hacksaw Ridge, so never mind that. Maybe I'll try to see all the Best Foreign Film nominees instead.

It wasn't eligible for some reason. I think France may have put something else up for consideration instead. Huppert's nomination (and hopefully win) more than makes up for it, especially irt foreign language films being so ghettoized by award shows.

Here's one of the short animated nominees. It's a VR film from the director of Feast. Pretty great little movie and neat to watch even as a 360 click-around to orient the camera experience. I wonder if my buddy with a PSVR can get this to work there.

It's kinda funny that the documentary feature nominees are: 3 movies about being black in America, 1 movie about the migrant crisis, and 1 about a kid who loves Disney cartoons.

I like the surprise, out of nowhere nominations. Michael Shannon is really the only one.

Meryl Streep probably got more votes because of her Golden Globe speech than because of her performance.

I hope there's at least one big surprise in the major categories. Either Affleck or a La La Land loss. I think La La Land is more likely with the backlash it's gotten. More people will put it on the bottom of their list I feel.
