Okja (Bong Joon Ho & Netflix)

The film is about a young girl who lives in the deep woods of South Korea's mountainous Gangwon Province with a "massive animal" named Okja, and does everything in her power to find her best friend when Okja disappears. Okja attracted much interest about the mysterious titular character, and the newly released clip features a glimpse of a large, brown-eyed creature with elephant-like skin, and a description in Korean that it is 'somewhere between human and animal.' Oscar-winner Erik-Jan de Boer (Life of Pi) is supervising the visual effects of the $50 million film.

Also stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Lily Collins and Tilda Swinton.

"The film is about a young girl who lives in the deep woods of South Korea's mountainous Gangwon Province with a 'massive animal' named Okja, and does everything in her power to find her best friend when Okja disappears."

This sounds really callous if Okja isn't the best friend in question.

    Also, I bet it's a land manatee.

From the set photos this should easily be a Matchcut Costume Design frontrunner next year.

I'm gonna echo Winston here, because what the fuck, I want to see this in a movie theater, goddammit.

Yeah, agreed. Amazon is doing this kinda thing so much better. Have your movies run in theatres and then maintain exclusivity in streaming it 'til the end of time.
Last 11 things I really enjoyed:

    Speed Racer (Wachowski/Wachowski, 2008)
    Safe (Haynes, 1995)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (Parker, 1999)
    Beastie Boys Story (Jonze, 2020)
    Bad Trip (Sakurai, 2020)
    What's Up Doc? (Bogdanovich, 1972)
    Diva (Beineix, 1981)
    Delicatessen (Caro/Jeunet, 1991)
    The Hunger (Scott, 1983)
    Pineapple Express (Green, 2008)
    Chungking Express (Wong, 1994)

Tried Netflix in Korea when it came out - terrible selection of movies. Had a look at Netflix in NZ while I was back - TERRIBLE selection of movies.

For a company with such a large market share, they sure don't offer a heck of a lot. And they know it, because they don't let you see a full list of all the films available, which is just infuriating.

Yeah, the region locking of their content is ridiculous. I cancelled my account.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

They said same-day release as streaming, so I assume the chains will boycott it again and it's gonna be the same as previous theatrical releases like Beast of No Nation and their documentaries, which was just like two dozen theaters across the US.

It's a good thing 12 of those will be in NYC right?

And the rest in LA, but yeah, pretty much. It's hard to see these releases as anything other than obligatory awards eligibility runs. It's not even big enough to be called a limited release.

Every time the pork-manatee was flailing around onscreen, I was reminded of the brontosaurus stampede in Jackson's King Kong. Not generously, I might add.

But I hope it'll be interesting and fun.
