Working normal hours, my paycheck was about $10 more. So the tax cut is yielding me about $20 a month, or about $240 a year. Not enough to make a difference, and not nearly enough for me to overlook everything else.

That's because you're in a higher tax bracket. The tax cuts increase progressively as you go up the tax bracket, with the richest Americans seeing the most dramatic increase in terms of percentage of salary (topmost seeing around 4% improvement vs. around 1% for the lower class). Also, the lower class benefits expire much sooner than the upper class benefits (within two to three years, IIRC).

And I don’t hate the US, I think what’s going on governmentally right now is mind boggling, insane, and terrifying.

My wife and her entire family are American. I have plenty to be concerned about.
