I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

I can't decide if we should lower ourselves to talk about the porn star accusing Trump of a yearlong relationship....or whether we should lower ourselves just long enough to mention that she said he compared her favorably to Ivanka before rocketing back up to the surface for air and getting out of the pool and neighborhood and city.

I have nothing against porn. I like porn.

I have nothing against sex with porn starts. I'm sure it could be really fun.

What I'm against is the raging hypocrisy from the party of family values.

The Evangelicals and the GOP have sold their fucking souls.

I hate that absolutely nothing matters.

So ICE has taken a guy I've known for years into custody with plans to deport him.

I interact with Al at least once a week. It's going to be weird not running into him anymore.

He's lived in the country for the greater part of 38 years. He has four daughters who are U.S. citizens. He's started multiple businesses which employ plenty of U.S. citizens. I don't know why this is the guy you target for an alleged infraction that occurred in 1980.

I doubt it. First of all, from the perspective of a porn star, having sex is her job. After spending sixteen hours a day getting her vagina and anus blown out by a gang of black dudes and then showered in semen, she probably just wants to kick back and watch Fox News, not have more sex. And from the guy's end, it's gotta be a let down: You're all psyched up for crazy, porn star sex, and in the end, it's just a normal, run-of-the-mill vagina. Only like way looser. And no, you absolutely cannot come in her face.

I mean, you can be Evangelical and still be abhorred by what Trump's doing for your side, right? I just don't understand the blind support to this that continues from all on the right. At least, I don't see any detraction.

I dont know. One side effect of Trump I didn't expect was Hollywood celebrities being outspoken about their faith. I like that. Ive seen posts from Scott derrickson and james gunn basically saying any Christian that supports Trump has either lost their faith or their mind, and I agree.

The evangelicals support trump because they believe that he will usher in the end times and bring about the 2nd coming of Christ. The world is suffering because of their delusional beliefs.

Well, there's the apocalypse and also---where are evangelicals gonna go? They have nobody else to support. Besides, this is America and Americans believe that the ends justify the means.

I...don't think it's that succinct. It's a deeper rooted problem that has existed for far too long that at it's core "republican = christian". There's been a shift in that belief (however small) because of Trump that sparks my hope that he is the catalyst to end the era of that generalized thinking.

Then my uncle's share something on FB and remind me how fucked everything is and will continue to be so wtf do I know. I quickly go back to being Red in Shawshank when I desperately want to be Andy on the topic of hope.

This is fucking depressing, even as lip service.

The Trump administration will create a new conscience and religious freedom division within the Health and Human Services Department to ease the way for doctors, nurses and other medical professionals to opt out of providing services that violate their moral or religious beliefs.

    [...]

By empowering an enforcement authority, the action will reverse policies put in place under President Barack Obama, and resurrect and expand “conscience protections” introduced under President George W. Bush. The new division, which will be part of the HHS Office for Civil Rights, will not only accept complaints from health-care professionals but will be responsible for ensuring that hospitals, clinics and other institutions across the country are accommodating their beliefs.

I think one of the good things that could (but not necessarily will) come of all this is a public reconsideration of the role of faith in the lives of Americans and a reassessment of what one can reasonably assume about a religious person. A great many liberals and socialists in America are seriously devoted to their (often Christian) faith and actually find the root of their political ideologies in their belief systems. However, the Republican right has been able to figure themselves as the only face and voice of Christianity in this country. Mostly-white conservative Christianity has been and will continue to be a major part of American Christianity, sure, but Christianity and conservativism are not intrinsically linked and it'd be great if we could not surrender the voice of faith to the far right.

This is probably overly hopeful. What I'm suggesting is conditional on an attitude of broadmindedness and curiosity that's mostly lacking from, essentially, all realms of public American discourse. But it's something I'd like to think could happen.

This and other stories have been bringing me to tears. ICE is a hate group enacting a white supremacist ideology. They do not consider their deportees human. Ripping families apart like this is an actual terrorist tactic and this is a deep moral stain on this country.

I saw Al’s wife today at their convenience store and deli. She wasn’t even allowed to say goodbye to him. Had to talk to him on a phone through glass.

This is a guy who agreed to leave the country Jan. 7 and purchased his own ticket to Jordan. Some politicians pulled some strings and got him a temporary reprieve. I think this is ICE flexing their muscles in response.

I don’t understand how they think these tactics won’t embitter his U.S. citizen wife and four U.S. citizen daughters toward their country and government.
