California pizza is probably the only style to which I have a strong objection.

You mean like bbq chicken pizza etc. from places like California Pizza Kitchen, or are there some defining characteristics of california style pizzas vs. say New York or Chicago style?

I’llI’ll be sure to tell the cops when we’re talking about our South Dakota Prairie dog trip, while eating deep dish pizza.Quoting Irish (view post)

I'm from Illinois and even I prefer thin crust over deep dish every day of the week.

Ah, kinda what I thought. Basically Neapolitan style pizza with zany toppings.
And for the record, egg on a pizza is one of the best things ever.

Never had egg on pizza but I've had egg on burger.
I don't mind BBQ or even an alfredo sauce pizza.... But that's only if marinara wasn't an option. If I wanted BBQ, I'd get BBQ.

May 1 tends to be a day of protests. There was a rumor that Amazon/Whole Foods/Instacart would have a bunch of walk-offs
I don't know what these people's problems are. The wholefoods I go to has giant glass installed in between the customer and the person scanning the food. They all are wearing masks and gloves. Only 20 people allowed in the store at once. Isles are one-way only. What else kind of protection do you need to feel safe? You think I wane to be out buying things I need to stay alive? You are a critical cog in the food-network. Maybe you didn't sign up to be out working with an UNPRECEDENTED virus, but see what happens when you all band together and quit. I bet your job will be filled up quicker than you think.Quoting Ezee E (view post)
Better conditions, paid leave, etc. etc. Part of it is a solidarity thing.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
In their own words: https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/8...riking-may-day
Whole Foods has 500 locations and 91,000 employees. The visible conditions at your local store may not exist across the country, and you can't account for every step of the supply chain. (Whole Foods also does deliveries.)
Last month, Amazon refused to close down locations where employees tested positive for covid. A lot of these people don't have health insurance. Amazon doesn't offer paid sick leave as policy.
Would you want to go back to work in that case?
So again ... in the so-called best and richest country in the world, we can't seem to do better than "risk your life for minimum wage or starve, and fuck off if you complain."
PS: Bezos' net worth has jumped $24 billion in 2020.
Why do people keep bringing this up? This doesn't mean anything that is actionable. It's paper wealth. We should punish Bezos because his company is 37 successful markets? Do people realize this number is based on FUTURE EARNING and FUTURE INVESTMENTS and doesn't represent the net present value?Quoting Irish (view post)
Amazon just announced earnings this week. Revenue up, Profit down. No matter. Amazon is going to spending 2x of their PROFIT they just made in Q1 (and maybe more) on COVID19 response over the next 6 months.
Normally a statement like this from a publiclly traded company would sink a stock. Amazon was up 4% at the bell this morning (down 8% now). Bad Bezos bad!!
I didn't hear about the employees testing positive thing. Yeh that would bother me. Happened to Walmart too. Are they striking?Quoting Irish (view post)
I think I would find comfort that what I am doing at whatever job it is, that I'm making a difference and helping people. Its the little things in these times.
It's a signal Bezos made his money by exploiting his employees. Amazon had a terrible reputation for the working conditions before the pandemic. Now it's just openly evil.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
They also have a long history of union busting. (Most recently firing 2 vocal organizers.)
He's obviously a psychopath, and the interesting to me is that nobody cares --- not the board, the other C-suites, or the public at large. All anybody sees is the money. There's a ton of press about Amazon's nasty shit and nobody at the company attempts to mitigate it, which kinda tells you something important (and depressing).
