I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

I just try to remind myself that Irwin Allen style disaster movies were the most reliable grossers in the early '70s.

Fun with stats: Lynch's Dune, when translated to 2017 dollars, would have made about $80 million, which is roughly equivalent to last year's The Mummy.

I hope he gets to film back to back so they have to let him release both.

"Dune" is the genre filmmaker's white whale (to mix a metaphor). Better men than DV have attempted it and failed miserably. The book is too wide, covers too much ground, and is too interior to make a good film, or even a good miniseries.

I expect this'll be a pretty and colorful clusterfuck of half-formed ideas and wayward plot, much like BR:2049.

There is a lot to love about Lynch's Dune, even if Lynch himself doesn't like it.

It was nominated for an Oscar. Can you guess the category?

I dunno. The highest grossing movie in 1987 was Three Men and a Baby.
    Sure why not?

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI (Rian Johnson) - 9
STRONGER (David Gordon Green) - 6
THE DISASTER ARTIST (James Franco) - 7
THE FLORIDA PROJECT (Sean Baker) - 9
LADY BIRD (Greta Gerwig) - 8

Oscar Isaac as Duke Leo Atreides. Cast is getting super good.

Javier Bardem is in as Stilgar. And whispers of Zendaya as Chani.

I'm not hugely knowledgeable of Dune, but I'm loving this cast and I've enjoyed DV movies I've seen. Plus, the prospect of a giant tentpole sci-fi to watch on a big screen has me ready to have fun.

And this one could be too. I meant to imply a good cast doesn't necessarily mean a good movie, much less one that "fucks."

So what am I missing? Is your excitement about the casting so far or are you a bigger "Dune" fan than I knew?

Dune is a lesser kind of Logans Run, in that I desperately want to love it, but end up recognizing it's a shit film that I love more for its fearless brazen testicle flopping absurdity than it actually being a good film. Both are prime real estate for remake as we've seen the areas for improvement that may make a good whole. Dune may border on unadaptable though, at least in single film form.

    Good point.

I dunno, Villeneuve has a style that I totally dig, even though it would likely be as slow paced as Blade Runner.
