Holy fuck.
Cameron apparently gets some rights back to Terminator in 2019, and is in early talks with Tim Miller to finish the franchise.

Believe it when it happens.

Why does this deserve a "holy fuck?"
Cameron isn't directing and Miller, well, after Deadpool the jury - that would be me - is out on whether he's got the chops for a Terminator movie.
Biggest hurdle is simply whether there is a story to tell. I mean, with Genysis they kinda overdid it so keep it simple instead. But then it's just a remake of Terminator 1.
Will they do it without Schwarzenegger? I'm thinking perhaps they should. Forget about past glories and really go for something new and different.
Apparently, the Ellison group is hiring top tier sci-fi writers to steer the story into an exciting new direction. There is still only so much that you can do.
This guy is still alive:

Why not get him out of retirement for a change?! He's been as integral to the franchise as Cameron and that would have gotten a holy fuck out of me.

If it's gonna play in Belgium, it'll be my most anticipated of the year. How weird is that? The Titanic conversion was exemplary I've heard so this bodes well.

Don't care. Still want to see Cameron's vision.
While speaking to News Australia, Cameron revealed that he actually has a trilogy in mind, and is working with current Terminator rights holder, David Ellison, to get it off the ground.

If it were for real, I'd be curious.
But I don't see how he can do 3 "Terminator" sequels and pump out the half dozen "Avatar" movies he has planned.
Well I think he'd only produce. But I somehow feel his role as producer would be like Spielberg's role in Poltergeist.Quoting Irish (view post)
Heh. Yeah, sure James. In your spare time when you're not talking about all the movies your making, please finish one.
Confirmed to be Tim Miller

Awesome!
I'm genuinely more excited about James Cameron producing.

They need to let this series die.

"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
It won't die. Even if they left it alone for 20 years, it'd come back as a reboot.

Not???
It's confirmed. I guess this reinforces the feeling that this movie will ignore all the Terminators after T2. Faith increased by about 5%.
Waiting for Eddie Furlong now.

I never watched Genisys, but IIRC from what I read about it, didn't it suggest that the reason for the multiple timelines is because they exist in a multiverse and that all the different timelines (OG, Salvation, Sarah Connor Chronicles, etc) happen all at once but separately? They pretty much baked in an explanation for why you can make a movie that is a direct sequel to T2 without having to de-canon any of the other movies.
Movie Theater DiaryQuoting Donald Glover
This the nicest, most thoughtful interpretation of anything Genisys offers.Quoting number8 (view post)
From what I can recall, it does bring up the idea of alternate timelines, but no different than anything it has since the very first movie, where simply the very fact that John Connor exists in a future without the Terminator having been sent back is already an alternate timeline in and of itself. I honestly don't remember if it introduced the idea of simultaneous timelines.
Like pretty much everything Genisys does, it acts as if it's doing something new, opening up new possibilities, but really it just resets to the same place any of them has, ending on the expected "But we still gotta be ready stop Judgment Day!" narration note as they drive off into the sun.

Last 11 things I really enjoyed:
Speed Racer (Wachowski/Wachowski, 2008)
Safe (Haynes, 1995)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (Parker, 1999)
Beastie Boys Story (Jonze, 2020)
Bad Trip (Sakurai, 2020)
What's Up Doc? (Bogdanovich, 1972)
Diva (Beineix, 1981)
Delicatessen (Caro/Jeunet, 1991)
The Hunger (Scott, 1983)
Pineapple Express (Green, 2008)
Chungking Express (Wong, 1994)
Does that happen? I thought the terminator series had always stuck with "there's only one timeline, you can't change it". Haven't seen Genisys.Quoting Henry Gale (view post)
