Certainly relevant, this should be something shown to the undecided voters out there of what the good ol' days meant. With that, it poses a lot of observations that really needed more time than the 90 minutes it runs for. Instead, it feels like a quick summary of theorizing that the high levels of incarceration is slavery evolved. It is sledgehammer effective in its 90 minutes.
My thoughts is that it simply needed more time to articulate on these ideas, particularly when faced with the crack/cocaine prison sentences and the differences of lengths between the two. The movie doesn't point out the high level of crime that occurred as a result of some of this, but it does show the late apology that some of the ideas didn't work.
