I guess it's that time of year when all the reviewers go crazy for a dozen or so masterpieces nobody can remember six months later.

I know what you mean, but I get the sense (hope) that things like this and La La Land are falling into a different aisle of acclaim than your Argo's, The Artist's, Dallas Buyers Club's, Imitation Game's, any given performance-driven biopic, etc.

And on the flipside, sometimes reviewers (or just regular-people festival-goers like moi) see masterpieces that aren't even released until at least six months later. The Look of Silence, Under the Skin, Spring Breakers all come to mind.
