Still not sold on it, but the finale of episode 15 gave me something close to goosebumps.
Season 2 kills season 1. Close to loving it now. The mystery is stronger, boring Klingons are not front and center this time, Anson Mount makes a good captain, Gregory Peck's grandson a good Spock.
There is genuine power this time. About 4 episodes to go, but totally did not see that twist coming in 'Project Deadalus'.

    Anyone else seen season 2?

I didn't bother because I thought Season 1 was awful. But if there is enough praise here I'd give it a try.

Slightly better yeah. I think its quality varied up and down more, but its highs are definitely higher (“Project Daedalus” is the first great episode of the series). LOVED Anson Mount (as the original series’ Captain Pike, making honor and decency so compelling) and Michelle Yeoh (chewing the scenary with wild abandon) this season as well.

These are your words. What happened?

I'm four episodes in and this is pretty great. Exceeded all my expectations.

I've never watched a Star Trek series before.

And the one right before, where they had to [
] Directed by Jonathan Frakes whose episodes always seem to be a bit crisper, better paced.

Anson Mount isn't super, but he is exactly what I expect a captain to be. Commanding, in control, reliable, looking good while sitting in that chair. In hindsight, I always liked Jason Isaacs as an actor, but Captain Lorca was shittingly written. Or at least written in way that doesn't match with my expectations of a Starship Captain.

I look up the episodes’ details and I think we’re talking about the same episode? Yeah, that one builds so well, is so suspenseful, and eventually heartbreaking in a way the series has never been before.

Seems I've been mixing shit up. Project Deadalus was in fact the one helmed by Jonathan Frakes, and the one after that, in which we learn the identity of the time traveller is called 'The Red Angel'.

Yep can see that. S2 has a more tantalizing central mystery. Can't wait to see how it continues. I will chime in later without spoiling.

From the little I know (and from watching the trailer), it sounded like they turned it into a super villain series, which is a huge turn off. That's part of the other reason why I stopped watching.

Ended greatly. Sure, very action packed although the visuals were just asskicking. Looked like a huge blockbuster. Crucially, it didn't sacrifice character or story for the sake of said action.

    I geeked out some.

I thought season 2 was real good, and digging season 3 as well so far. David Cronenberg is also in it. I was like wait what?!

Yeah, S3 feels like proper Star Trek with something fresh to say. It's still flawed but it's getting further from "guilty pleasure". Definitely not Picard-level disappointment.

    So glad [
] I thought they were the worst of this season. Now, episode 11 is fucking extraordinary. Huge sets, tremendous fx, big budget feel. Love the look of the nebula and the ideas in this episode. Hey, it's [
]. And that beast that threatened Michael so reminded me of something out of Bloodborne with its pieces of cloth trailing behind it. Lovely cliffhanger, can't wait for EP. 12.

I have nothing to contribute to this thread except that I recently watched Next Gen start to finish to patch up all the episodes I never caught. My lord that Scottish haunted sex mansion episode with Dr. Crusher was, by a hefty stretch, one of the most embarrassing and heinous things I've ever seen. But at least it was one of the few episodes I thought were outright bad. Most of the entirety of this show is just super good. I found myself unexpectedly celebrating when a Klingon episode arrived. They were just so interesting. Otherwise I was usually in tears for one reason or another by the end of most episodes. I did, tho, tire of Q and Lwaxana Troi and some of the more gimmicky stuff that came back again and again. And they totally magic-negro-ed Whoopi for Guinan, even if it was sometimes effective.

Next I wanna get to DS9 or Voyager, whichever came next. I'll get to Discovery and Picard probably like ten years from now heh.
