So this is delayed again. There's now no release date. I'm starting to think we won't see this out this year. Maybe December.

Didn't know where to put this
Production Values look really good- I even get a J J vibe.
Needs more Isaacs. Still, that doesn't look discouraging, but I doubt new ground will be broken.

That's about as muddled as it could possibly get, which given this show's development to date, isn't unexpected.
YouTube won't let me watch the CBS trailer, but the Canadian one from Space Channel and the UK Netflix one were radically different from one another:
Not sure if the CBS one is the same as either of those. But mixed-to-positive feelings between them.
Last 11 things I really enjoyed:
Speed Racer (Wachowski/Wachowski, 2008)
Safe (Haynes, 1995)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (Parker, 1999)
Beastie Boys Story (Jonze, 2020)
Bad Trip (Sakurai, 2020)
What's Up Doc? (Bogdanovich, 1972)
Diva (Beineix, 1981)
Delicatessen (Caro/Jeunet, 1991)
The Hunger (Scott, 1983)
Pineapple Express (Green, 2008)
Chungking Express (Wong, 1994)
So. much. lens. flare.
The severed arm perfectly acquitted itself, because of the simplicity of its wishes and its total lack of doubt.
Wow. That exceeded my expectations. I'll buy it when its released on physical media.

So this will be on Netflix as well?
The uploader has not made this video available in your country
For other countries. Not in the US. Hence the Youtube restriction.Quoting Skitch (view post)
Movie Theater DiaryQuoting Donald Glover
Ah, dammit. I had seen the trailer already and didn't have a restriction, and Netflix plastered everywhere on it. That's a bummer.
Strange that the trailer focuses on a single protagonist, when "Star Trek" has always been about the ensemble.
Sorta a big spoiler. Maybe? I guess?
(And also a colossally bad idea.)
[]
Wow that's dumb.
They seem to be deliberately trying to break that mold. The fact that the "main hero" isn't the starship captain is also somewhat novel.Quoting Irish (view post)
Movie Theater DiaryQuoting Donald Glover
There's a point where the mold become so broken it ceases to be recognizable. Watching the trailer makes me wonder how far they can go before this just becomes SyFy with "Star Trek" iconography.
I'd mind it less if they'd stop going back to the TOS trough (Harry Mudd, the above spoiler item, Klingons, etc).
Well, reviews aren't bad at all. They're quite good. Which is a nice surprise.

Biggest surprise of the year. I enjoyed the hell out of this. The first two episodes were better than the last 4 movies.
The cold open was fucking fantastic ("We come in peace" as a threat.) Some very cool visual ideas (the crewman with the weird RGB screen shaped head; the brig cell sitting out in cold space; the Star Wars style holograms.)
Loved the lead; she's the most badass Trek officer since Kirk. (There were two specific moments that charmed me completely.) They almost lost me at [] but then I remembered some of the shit Spock pulled in TOS and just went with it.
Paced to a fault, but noticeably slowed down when the actors were required to deliver all that dialogue in Klingon.
It's very much action sci-fi, but they took elements that older series didn't have the guts to follow through on--specifically, things about Spock, Worf, and Tom Paris--and doubled down on them. I sorta like the way they're repeating old themes and presenting them in a new way.
My jaw dropped at the cliffhanger. I can't believe after all this time, so much bad TV and many, many mediocre movies, that I'm eagerly anticipating the next episode.
My feeling of you is as a very critical fella, and I mean that in the nicest way possible, so this is even more encouraging to hear.

Saying I'm a "very critical fella" is probably putting it too kindly.Quoting Morris Schæffer (view post)
There's a bunch of folks over at r/startrek that hated it because it wasn't "Star Trek" enough. I could kinda see their points, although I also thought there were being a little too shortsighted. Star Trek has a ton of franchise baggage and a new show that's exactly like the old shows would be boring. I'm glad they rolled the dice of something fresh.
I don't want to oversell it, but goddamn did I have a good time---and I went in fully expecting it to suck ass. I think if you enjoyed the recent movies and shows like "The Expanse," then there's a good bet you'll enjoy this.
ETA: It should be noted that I am a lifelong, hardcore "Star Trek" fan---like, I was reading Leonard Nimoy's "I Am Not Spock" in highschool along with the production diaries of various cast & crew---albeit one that gave up on the franchise sometime during the first season of "Enterprise."

Irish is equal parts very critical fella and geeking fanboy. Therefore he is cool.
I'm looking forward to this, but... another streaming service? Gah.
Is the streaming service the only place I can watch this?
