    The 2016 Oscar Fantasy Draft

    Hey everyone,

Ran across this on Slate just now (link): Anyone interested in an Oscar Fantasy Draft?

Rather than an Oscar pool where you try and guess the most correct winners, here you'd be assigned a draft order and in a snake draft you'd select nominees you think are likely to win. Here's the rules as per Slate:

There are 121 Oscar nominees across the 24 categories, from The Big Short for Best Picture to Ennio Morricone (The Hateful Eight) for Best Score to Star Wars: The Force Awakens for Visual Effects. Here’s the list.
Assign your friends a draft order at random. To keep things fair, you’ll use what’s called a “snake draft.” Put simply, whoever picks last in round one then picks first in round two, and whoever picks first in round one must pick last in round two. The order keeps reversing (or “snaking” back and forth) from one round to the next. For the visually oriented, here’s what a five-person draft would look like through six rounds: 12345-54321-12345-54321-12345-54321. Got it?
Once a nominee is drafted, that nominee is off the board. So, for instance, if you draft Adam McKay for Best Director, then nobody else can. They can still draft any other available nominee, including The Big Short in its other categories (Editing, Screenplay, etc.), but Adam McKay is yours-all-yours. Similarly, if you like Brie Larson for Best Actress but someone else has already picked her, tough luck.
The draft ends when all 121 nominees have been selected.
During the ceremony, hold on to your list of drafted nominees, and cheer for your shoo-ins and long shots. You get 20 points for each winner on your roster in any of the big eight “marquee” categories: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor/Actress, Best Supporting Actor/Actress, Best Screenplay, and Best Adapted Screenplay. You get 10 points for each winner in any of the other categories.
    Who's in?

Below are the draft results. Here are the nominees to chose from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/88th_A...ds#Nominations. When you post your pick, format it like this: "Sound Editing - Mad Max: Fury Road" or "Best Director - Adam McKay - The Big Short"

The draft is open NOW and will conclude with the last round completed prior to 8:30pm EST Sunday. Enjoy!

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

We're at 7 now, would like to get 10, but will cap it at 8 if we don't get three more by noon tomorrow.

How many rounds do we think we ought to do? There's 121 nominees, but clearly there are a lot that have no chance. If we get 8 people, how about 10 rounds, or 8 rounds with 10 people, getting 80 picks. Seem like overkill? Input is surely welcome.

I'm thinking draft as many complete rounds as you can by Sunday show time. Also, capping at 8 might be a good idea so people at the top don't have such a big advantage.

Makes sense. Draft will be open until 8:30pm EST Sunday night. Last completely drafted round will close it out. Let's go with 8 people. Next person to sign up will close out the group.

I don't see any reason to kick you out. We'll start the draft at Noon EST today, whether we get any more players or not. That'll give us some time to get through things since we all won't be online at the same time.

The draft order and results are posted in this thread's original post.

Ivan has the first pick. Enjoy!

I dunno, hard to say. I know people are at work and stuff so we'll see what the pace is like going into the evening. Also not really sure how to, like, autodraft or fairly skip someone.

Drafting may be tight tomorrow with work, but I'll be on much more through weekend. As will most, I expect. I say give it the weekend and go from there.

Solid start, for sure. I've PM'd Ezee. We shall see what happens.

I'm thinking that it could be okay to skip picks if they're not made in a reasonable amount of time (3 hours? More/less?) and that person just doesn't get a pick in that round. Seem fair?

That works. I'll adjust the order to put him last in the round. I won't move him around for the rest of it until it becomes an issue.

From here on: if you don't draft within 3 hours of the previous pick, you will be bumped to the last pick in that given round.

And since it's my pick now, here it goes:

Best Actress - Brie Larson - Room
