My feelings about #PorgLove are entirely separate from my anticipation for SW8. One is the heady rush of giving oneself completely over to corporately planned and marketed cuteness. The other is the interested but critical distance I approach texts with. Porgs may be in Star Wars 8, but I shall the film for itself, uninfluenced by hype.
Or at least, that's what I tell myself.

Just rewatched the last trailer.
What if...okay, what if...
What if it was SNOKE who picked the wrong one to train?
I mean, the trailer could very well be being super manipulative and deceptive, but...it gives the impression that Snoke is telling Rey to fulfill her destiny.
Couple that with Kylo’s being tempted by the light side.
Maybe the two are opposite sides of the same coin - one is a force for light, One a force for dark. Snoke knee of them and jumped on be opportunity to train one of them to be his dark champion.
Except he chose the wrong one. Rey was meant to be a warrior on the dark aide all along, and Kylo on the light. K

Intriguing Meg, but I do not believe for a second this series is currently this creatively inspired that it would pull such a switcheroo out of its tiny little Porg butthole.
I think the only reason they gave Kylo doubts is so that they could make that scene on that bridge more shocking.

Idk, I'm pretty sure all signs point to some serious doubts about where characters fall on the light dark binary/spectrum being the engine that fuels things going forward. Outside of Skywalker family drama (which this is tightly connected to), what story is there to tell?

So CNN says it falls short of expectations, and something called the National Review says it's a "unoriginal, tone-deaf mess", and Forbes says it has flaws... everyone else is literally gushing.
