Irish's argument is all kind of weak , right?
I mean, the portrayal of the Nazis, for instance, is totally at the discretion of the film-maker, and depends entirely on the perspective the story is being told from.....if you want to focus on the Allies, having the Germans remain one-dimensional boogie men would accurately reflect how they were viewed by the grunts on the front line, I imagine. But even allowing for that, there are a ton of films that portray the opposition with more nuance (example off the top of my head: A Midnight Clear).
Just the idea of saying "too many of genre X movies do this, so all genre X movies need pissing off entirely" makes no sense to me. I'm no fan of biopics, for example, because I tend to find them to be dull and/or dramatically misshapen, but I welcome film-makers to keep churning them out in the hopes a good one crops up from time to time.
