Not a fan of the original, either, but from the trailers, it looks like an extremely loose adaptation. There doesn't seem to be any political context at all, there's no meta-narrative about the novel, and the murder is turned into a personal family vendetta for the main character.

I kinda want to see it just to see if Billy Ray really did watch the original and completely misunderstood why it won an Oscar.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

Netflix only has the remake. It is very mediocre and I'm left wondering why I bothered. Also Julia Roberts overacts so much in this film it made my brain hurt.

    And it's happened once again
    I'll turn to a friend
    Someone that understands
And sees through the master plan
    But everybody's gone
And I've been here for too long
To face this on my own
Well, I guess this is growing up
