Aaaah what a perfect trailer. Great choice of music too (Lykke Li's "Just Like A Dream"), even it's just the instrumental version, meaning its lyrics are only covertly thematically perfect too, both knowing the song and having seen the movie.

Saw it at TIFF (followed by Johnson, the cast and KAUFMAN a few feet before me afterwards), and jotted some thoughts here.

Last 11 things I really enjoyed:

    Speed Racer (Wachowski/Wachowski, 2008)
    Safe (Haynes, 1995)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (Parker, 1999)
    Beastie Boys Story (Jonze, 2020)
    Bad Trip (Sakurai, 2020)
    What's Up Doc? (Bogdanovich, 1972)
    Diva (Beineix, 1981)
    Delicatessen (Caro/Jeunet, 1991)
    The Hunger (Scott, 1983)
    Pineapple Express (Green, 2008)
    Chungking Express (Wong, 1994)

Hadn't even realized that's Lykke Li!

How would you rank this amongst the Kaufman films? (Human Nature being everyone's fav of course)

Hmmm. I'll say I want another viewing before ranking because it takes a while to reveal its true intentions and the general feeling I was left with it overwhelmed a lot of what I might've thought about it overall (in a good way, but especially because of how singular it feels), if that makes sense.

Right now, I consider Eternal Sunshine, Synecdoche, Malkovich pretty much among my all time favourites in descending order (and very likely Adaptation too, but it's harder to say since I admit I haven't seen since I was about 13). Anomalisa definitely feels like it sits a tier below those three for me, but that doesn't mean it's not one of the most worthwhile experiences I've had with a film all year.

But I also remember really liking Clooney's Confessions despite Kaufman's alleged frustrations with it having little similarity to his script. I also remember not-disliking Human Nature, but maybe that was because of my awareness of its lower reputation going in. Still, can't say it's left much of an impression aside from first-15-minutes-of-Boyhood-age Arquette naked and hairy. (Again, probably about 13.)

Yeah Eternal Sunshine's definitely my fav, but I still haven't been able to shake off Synecdoche since seeing it in 2008. Due a rewatch.
