Probably can do the same thing with pretty much any politician. They practice this stuff so they don't fuck up and have something reasonable to say when they have cameras in their face all day. Doesn't make it less honest. Maybe not as off-the-cuff as some would like, but I don't see how that equals fraudulent.

Selling fear of socialism to his voters is exactly why he could probably beat Bernie. Its what Trump does, sells fear and hate.

I'm starting to get scared that none of this will even matter. Senate Republicans yesterday voted down three election security bills that would have made it tougher for foreign countries to interfere in elections. It's almost as if they are relying on it.

Simple solution. Take a page from the playbook of "March Violet" Nazis circa 1933.

    - Register as a Republican now.

    - Vote for Trump in November.

    - When the fascists take over and the secret police come around, you can legitimately claim to be a party member in good standing who voted for The Leader.

    - If the fascists don't take over, nobody will care what you did.

    Either way you're golden.

Unless the economy suddenly tanks, it's unlikely anybody could beat him.

What I'm tired of is hearing Republican pundits on cable news pleading for Democratic voters to pick a boring moderate so moderate conservatives can abandon Trump in November. Moderate conservatives are not abandoning Trump. They love Trump. Trump has a ninety-five percent approval rating among Republicans. But they don't want to admit that they love Trump, so they go through this whole song and dance about how Trump is actually the lesser of two evils, and how Bernie Sanders is basically a less fashionable Pol Pot, in order to rationalize their undying love for a corrupt, authoritarian rapist who coddles white supremacists and locks refugee children fleeing violence in cages.

No, it's not; for one thing, Bernie's not a Socialist, and there are always going to be Republicans who cynically claim, or even genuinely believe every Democrat's a deep-down Socialist, no matter whether it's true or not (just look at how some of them characterized Obama/Clinton, for one thing), and there will always be a small faction of the country, the hardcore conservatives, who will be chomping at the bit to believe them. But, you're acting like an intellectual lightweight like Trump's eventual attempt to weaponize the "Socialism" label against him will go any further than a mindless, knee-jerk bogeymanning of the same old vapid word salad of "blahblahStalin'sRussiablahbla hVenezuela", as if the Cold War is still a thing, or that Bernie won't have the capacity to debunk his baseless fearmongering through his own campaign, ads, and nationally televised debates, a debunking that he's steadfastly done time and time again, even in the den of wolves itself (Fox News), you're just wrong. The average American isn't going to care about such baseless labels, they want what Bernie's actually offering, which is higher wages, to stop crushing an entire generation underneath the weight of the student debt crisis, and they want universal healthcare (which goes across party lines, as now even a majority of Republican voters ae polled as supporting a transition to a Medicare-For-All system, the same one that Bern just so happens to be fighting all-out for). We need a strong, proud Progressive like Bernie to continue pushing for those policies, and win back the Presidency with an actual, economic populism to replace the blatantly false, fear-mongering populism of Trump, so stop just negging/sniping from the sidelines and be Progressive, b-e Progressive, Skitch!

I think the Dems can take the Senate and make Trump's second term miserable. I doubt the DNC will allow Bernie to be the nominee.

    1. I made no statements about what I think about Bernie.
    2. I think you're incredibly naive about how intelligent the average Trump voter is. Literally yesterday I had a conversation with Trumpies where they were scoffing at "socialist Bern" winning New Hampshire. It doesnt matter to these people what he is, that's their FOX news perception, and they hear that label once, that's it.

But that's purely anecdotal evidence; of course you're always going to find Trumpists out there knee-jerk dissing Bernie "cuz Socialism", but the idea that you need a Dem to appeal to a lot of red voters to win (which is an iffy proposition anyway, because Hilary won over as many of them as the pundits were predicting because she was so moderate, right?) doesn't hold much water when you look at how so many more Americans are swing voters, and Bernie will win over more of them than Clinton did because he's offering the legitimate pro-people agenda that they want, as opposed to only just being as Progressive as big money donors will allow him to be, and keep attempting to muddle through with a lousy, half-measure healthcare reform plan appropriated from Republicans, whose shortcomings are visible to the entire country, which Medicare-for-all will fix. Head-to-head on stage, Trump will wither underneath the weight of his indefensible record and his shitty policies/proposals (such as the number of Americans who have lost healthcare coverage under his adminstration), which Bernie will come out full force against like he always has, and, while I'm not saying it's a sure thing that Bernie will win, he could still easily do so, and more importantly, he deserves to win as the best candidate running, which is why I'm going all-out fighting for his victory, and not just preemptively give up all hope as if we've never had a Progressive President in this country, or that the Dems' biggest successes weren't underneath such leaders, because they were, and that's why we need make the supposedly "Progressive" party go back to actually being Progressive again.

I just want an actual leftist party in this country, even if they do lose. The DNC is GOP lite when they are supposed to be an opposition party. And they have lost plenty trying to appear moderate when the GOP paints them as socialist commies anyways.

Stu go watch some of the Daily Show interviewing Trump fans. They literally do not care about anything, they just hate democrats and anything resembling left. That's it. They dont care about levels of left, or what anything on left says. All left is communism or socialism to them, both words they dont understand, just that theyve been taught to fear like satan. GOP is a religion, no, a cult.

I'm not so sure about that - I have a lot of buddies on the right, and almost to a person, they do not like Trump. At. All. I don't get where those 95% of Republicans love Trump numbers come from, cuz that is not what I observe in every day life.

Maybe its regional. I'm in the middle of Amish Ohio, literally 99.5% right leaning. I don't know a single right leaning person that will concede even the slightest of negatives about Trump. I can't even get them to admit his hair looks stupid. They worship him.

Also I don't know where that 95% of Republicans love Trump comes from either, I didn't say that. I know not all republicans are fans, nationally.

From my experience people can say they dislike someone but still vote for them anyways. Also people should vote for someone because of their policies lining up with their own.

I mean, all you have to do is pay attention to what the Republicans are saying about the Democrats. Trump and the GOP are openly campaigning for Bernie at this point, while eviscerating any moderate (besides Buttigieg) who might gain any traction. Go track Trump's comments -- the guy just tore into Bloomberg, who's been in the race for 10 seconds and has yet utter a negative word about Bernie Sanders.

At this point, they know what the data says: the far left can't win the general and will likely hurt all the down-ticket Democrats as well.

Republicans say they are salivating over the prospect of a head-to-head contest with either Sanders, the independent senator from Vermont, or Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana.
Source: Trump advisers say their ideal Democratic primary scenario is taking shape.

    Bullshit.

Trump's only goal is to sow discord where he can sow discord, where it's easy. And taking a shot at the DNC through Bernie or Bloomberg is easy.

Centrist-right wonks can't win the general. Didn't we already learn this lesson with Hillary? You put Bloomberg and Warren against Trump and it'll be 2016 all over again. You can't smear this guy over bad policy and incremental factoids and tabloid-level lies. It doesn't work. It never has. Neither does taking the moral high ground.

If either of those two win the nomination, the entire Bernie coalition will sit at home along with most of the millennials and Gen Zs and minority voters, creating a huge Venn diagram of apathy, and that guarantees a Trump victory.

Bernie is the only politician in my lifetime is has said anything that approaches a real, positive message. Maybe he wins, maybe he loses. But I'd rather we take a shot at free healthcare & college tuition & genuine prison reform & higher wages than the alternative --- which is to have another DNC executroid working for the banks and running on an empty platform of minute change.

I'd be good with Bernie too. But the thing I struggle with is understanding why people would rather let Trump win than to vote against him. Clearly he's worse on so many levels than anyone the Democrats could nominate. Incremental change may not be wholly ideal, but aggressive shifts in the opposite direction via Trump is the full opposite of ideal. Bernie supporters don't like Trump so I can't fathom how they can passively support him by refusing to vote for Democrat X. Seems intensely counterproductive. The teach-the-Democrats-a-lesson tactic is terrible for the country and digs the hole too deep. How you can hate a centrist Democrat more than Trump is mindboggling.
