I hope it gets a theme song. By David Hasselhoff.

Fantastic.
I played the original game for the first time in ages at a bar a couple of months ago, and I kept thinking, "How has this never been made into a movie, or at least some sort of animated show?" -- But here we are!!

They could really just reuse the San Andreas footage and insert a CGI monster, no?
lolwut.
I can't wait to see it.
EDIT: Damn how do I delete this? Didn't see the other thread like ten pages back. Sorry. Please merge or move if you can. Thanks.

I've been thinking about this, but it's curious to me that video game movies are so uninterested in adapting the appeal of a game. There's no attempt to identify what it is that was fun about the game and try to translate that. They always go for just the visual or the mythology, which to me are the things you should be able to alter in translation.
And that's glaringly obvious here. Because you've got a game that people love because it simulates the experience of being giant monsters where the goal is to destroy a city as much as possible, and they took that and made a movie about the importance of stopping giant monsters from destroying a city. I don't think it matters that they've faithfully named the ape George. They've turned the concept backwards.

Does that mean Colossal is the best possible version of Rampage: The Movie?
Yeah that looks horrid.
Like, did anyone actually play the game? Or even just watch some footage?
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"
"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
Couple thoughts.
- I hate that Smashing Pumpkins song.
- If ever there was a property to turn comedic...this would be one. Instead its a thriller?
- Remember when Arnold cameod in The Rundown to handoff the "bombastic giant action man" baton to Dwayne? Instead of taking lots of cool heavy action roles he takes lots of comedies and this kind of horseshit.
It didn't look self-serious to me.

I think perhaps they needed to do that because how do you make a movie engaging when the sole motivation of the monsters is to relentlessly destroy cities? It's a pretty daft premise as a videogame, which is fine for an 80's arcade game, but I understand why they turned the concept backwards.Quoting number8 (view post)

I loved the game in elementary school. It's very dumb and fun, just tallying how many buildings you destroy before the national guard kills you, with little pixel nude people who scurry off the screen when you catch them in the shower. There was even an arcade version at the mall.
I don’t think it would be hard to write it as a giant monster smashy movie at all.
Trump invites all the Mexicans to come live in cities in the USA, then uses his biogenetically engineered monsters to destroy the cities.
Look, there’s even timely social commentary.

Conan towers over his guests but here he's barely eye level with Johnson.
I actually watched that last night -- On the full show! As it aired on real live TV! I am a person who exists in 2018!! -- and definitely thought it was funny (especially gorilla suit guy).
I do have a particular soft spot for Conan remotes, but especially those involving him playing against actors putting on personas who despise him. Will Arnett, Jack McBrayer and Gal Gadot are other great recurring presences like that.

Conan + Kevin Hart = Conan + Jordan Schlansky = Conan + Clueless Gamer = Conan Remotes = Gold
I honestly think that Conan has been the best late night host for quite a while. His humor feels so organic and quick witted rather than scripted, even though most of the remotes are scripted. But put him with an actor that gives a damn, and the skit is great.
