Cutties Ballot Thread DEADLINE JUNE 28TH

Ballots are due JUNE 28TH. Nothing will be considered final until the deadline, so feel free to toss around thoughts and lobby and edit and re-edit.

As before, you do not need to vote in every category, and you do not have to have seen every show to vote.

Please only vote in a category if you have three nominees, and limit yourselves to five maximum. Please read the notes below the list! I'm separating the notes so you can copy and paste the categories.

    NOTES

*Because "Comedy" and "Drama" are so subjective and so many good shows go across genres, we are dividing nominees by short-form and long-form narrative. Short Form would exist in episodes that are <30 minutes long, and long form is >40 minutes.

*I strongly recommend posting a bunch of YouTube videos of opening credits in case people aren't watching the shows but should be aware of good credit sequences.

*"Guest star" is someone who is in 1-3 episodes.

*We have decided that the "Best Episode" can be any episode that aired from June 1, 2014 to May 31, 2015, even if that season itself is not eligible. This is to honor episodes that otherwise would be ignored. Feel free to raise flags on episodes you don't think people should overlook.

*Please, so important: when putting an episode on your ballot, put it like this:

    Show, "Episode Title"

You'd be amazed how much trouble that would save. Also, please don't abbreviate show titles (GOT, P&R, etc.) because it causes problems with my spreadsheet.

*For best episode categories only, you can have up to ten nominees.

*For "Cancelled Too Soon" only you can have a minimum of one nominee, and up to five.

And, for convenience, here is a list of eligible seasons and shows:

Ooh, nice. Been half-heartedly working on a ballot for a bit now. Time to kick it into overdrive!

Might just post my un-whittled down version like I have before to give certain potential nominees more visible consideration.
Last 11 things I really enjoyed:

    Speed Racer (Wachowski/Wachowski, 2008)
    Safe (Haynes, 1995)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (Parker, 1999)
    Beastie Boys Story (Jonze, 2020)
    Bad Trip (Sakurai, 2020)
    What's Up Doc? (Bogdanovich, 1972)
    Diva (Beineix, 1981)
    Delicatessen (Caro/Jeunet, 1991)

Really struggling with it this year. I think I watched fewer shows than usual and I know for sure I wasn't super excited about hardly any of them. Will give it my best shot cuz I love when we do this stuff. No Matchies this year was a bummer.

I watch so little tv, and what I do watch is generally after the fact, that this is nearly impossible. Here's what I'm current on: Better Call Saul, Game of Thrones, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, 6/13 House of Cards, 5/13 Walking Dead, 2/13 Orphan Black, a few episodes of Community. All other vote getters will be based on having at least seen the next most recent season.

Still whittling down my ballot, and catching up on stuff I feel like I should to vote!

But were DOCUMENTARY (for The Jinx, Sonic Highways, Going Clear, and I'll continue to argue Drunk History) and MINISERIES (Wayward Pines, mainly) dropped since I last checked or simply lost in the shuffle?

The qualifying shows are still listed in the spoilered box in the main post, but the categories themselves aren't in the core bolded list.

    I'm for 'em!

Sorry for the delay, Henry. I can only check MC on my phone at work and this required some digging.

I don't know what happened to the documentary list, but I have added it in and added it as a "best of" category.

As far as miniseries go, my instinct is to put them with long-form narratives. There's not a huge distinction, especially with the trend towards shorter seasons on cable/Netflix. Do we think that would work?

Also, although though it is a TRAGEDY that Hannibal has been cancelled, and obviously SOMEONE DESERVES TO BE EATEN over it, as a reminder it does not count towards this year's Cutties. Assuming it's not saved by another service (C'MON, NETFLIX) it has my "Cancelled Too Soon" vote sewn up for next year.

I don't know what happened to the documentary list, but I have added it in and added it as a "best of" category.

As far as miniseries go, my instinct is to put them with long-form narratives. There's not a huge distinction, especially with the trend towards shorter seasons on cable/Netflix. Do we think that would work?
No worries! And yeah, there are very few distinctly limited/mini series that I can't put elsewhere (Over The Garden Wall is animated, The Jinx are Sonic Highways are documentaries, Wayward Pines is long-form, and I don't really watch American Horror Story anymore..)
Last 11 things I really enjoyed:

    Speed Racer (Wachowski/Wachowski, 2008)
    Safe (Haynes, 1995)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (Parker, 1999)
    Beastie Boys Story (Jonze, 2020)
    Bad Trip (Sakurai, 2020)
    What's Up Doc? (Bogdanovich, 1972)
    Diva (Beineix, 1981)
    Delicatessen (Caro/Jeunet, 1991)
    The Hunger (Scott, 1983)
    Pineapple Express (Green, 2008)
    Chungking Express (Wong, 1994)

Haha yeah, Major Lazer is a lot of fun. I've been watching an episode a every few nights recently. From the universe of the show to subtle way they filter the animation to make it look like an old-school film telecine like a pre-'90s kids cartoon, I could live in the atmosphere of the series for so much longer than 10 minutes at a time.

Plus the voice cast they have episode to episode:
