New Alfonso Cuaron film, December 14th. (And some noted it's a first for Netflix in that they put up "In Select Theater" upfront first instead of putting it small under their logo, so this will probably be campaigned hard by them)
Midnight Run (1988) - 9
The Smiling Lieutenant (1931) - 8.5
The Adventures of Robinhood (1938) - 8
Sisters (1973) - 6.5
Shin Godzilla (2016) - 7.5
Yeah, honestly even the YouTube trailer picture not having "NETFLIX" plastered in the corner is quietly a big deal. I feel like Cuarón really strong-armed them for it to be this way for it to be seen simply as a film first, and one that just happens to be produced by Netflix, rather than "A Netflix Film" all over it, "Streaming now! Giant red N being drawn over the screen, blah blah etc.. Oh did we mention Alfonso Cuarón made this?"
Either way, trailer looks beautiful. Really hoping I can see the movie at TIFF.

Safe (Haynes, 1995)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (Parker, 1999)
Beastie Boys Story (Jonze, 2020)
Bad Trip (Sakurai, 2020)

Anyone here watch any of these? Been thinking about going through them all...
I watched about half of the first one. It was intolerable.
Weirdest Cloverfield sequel yet.

The Harrison Marathon - A Podcast About Harrison Ford
Shia playing his own father in a biography of his abuse is....some kind of thing. Not sure if that's a recommended coping mechanism, but I have my doubts.

First teaser trailer and poster for Ari Aster's second feature after Hereditary. Both indicate one rather uniquely bright and happen-in-broad-daylight horror.
Midnight Run (1988) - 9
The Smiling Lieutenant (1931) - 8.5
The Adventures of Robinhood (1938) - 8
Sisters (1973) - 6.5
Shin Godzilla (2016) - 7.5
Cult movie? I'm in.
Every time.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
Ugh, you two.
Cult movies are my second most hated horror sub-genre, after zombies.
Every one of them is the same. And it's so rare that they're as creepy as they need to be.
(I also think the premise worked better in the 60s and 70s when there were actual, fucked up, creepy cultists running around. But today? Booooooooooring.)
ETA: I should prolly just start making every one of my posts in the Skitch's Unpopular Opinion thread, lol.

mother! is not the same as Red State is not the same as Hereditary is not the same as Thirst, is not the same as the Witch is not the same as the VOID as not the same as Last Shift is not the same as Martyrs.Quoting Irish (view post)
Huh? Half of your examples aren't cult movies.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
Maybe thirst is a stretch but the rest are all certainly cult affiliated.Quoting Irish (view post)
Dunno about that.
I consider movies about witches to be ... about witches. Covens aren't cults. I think that once something involves the devil / demons / worship then it enters a separate category, but maybe that's just me.
Haven't seen "The Void" or "Last Shift" (although, now I sorta want to), but I definitely wouldn't call "mother!" a cult movie and "Matryrs" is kinda iffy, too.
Back on topic: Is there anything in this trailer you find the least bit surprising? It looks a stones throw from "The Apostle" and "The Sacrament" and a dozen others. I'm surprised Aster is more or less repeating himself and so quickly.
