My mind is blown. Werner Herzog is making a documentary about cave paintings in 3D.

He talks about it in these youtube videos:

Herzog on the production, why he wanted to film in 3D:

Herzog shares anecdotes, talks about why 3D is a bad idea:

Giving up in 2020. Who cares.

Nic Cage needs to go on hiatus for a little while.

If he has to do shit for a few years to give us a performance like Bad Lieutenant every once in a while, so be it.

An Oscar snub if I ever saw one.

Appears so. I bet Dragon Tattoo either goes to someone else or drops off completely.

Regardless, I wonder if Nic Cage will get his dreamwish of playing Captain Nemo.
Nic Cage as Captain Nemo would be fantastic.

Actually, no, I really enjoy Nic Cage in movies.
I haven't enjoyed Nic Cage in a movie since Face/Off.

Didn't like him in that, nor the movie.

Closest he has come to Face/Off since then is The Weather Man.

He perfected the hammy over-the-top performance in F/O, and has spent most of his time in a repetitive rut.

Didn't say I liked the movie, just Cage was decent in it. Ever seen a decent performance in a bad movie? I'm sure you have.

Of all films, why Battle Royale?

I suppose. I was just wondering whether that would be profitable and worthwhile.

I share your cynicism - I really do! - but do you feel that Hollywood has actually tried in the past ten years? Take Doom. Conceptually, and removing the interactive aspect altogether, it's as generic as storytelling gets, the game is even worse in that regard. Nonetheless, take the first two alien movies and in many ways, they're fairly basic too. No, it's all about the craft and the kind of put people that get put in front and behind the camera. And it's about taking chances. The marines in Aliens are foul-mouthed, cocky and macho as fuck, and so are the soldiers from the Doom movie so why are the Cameron protagonists so much better? More memorable? If Peter Jackson can convert The Lord of the Rings into something magical, then surely the right person can do that with Mass Effect.

But Mass Effect works so well because it's based on your decisions and how it effects the rest of the game. One of the few video games that does this effectively I think.

Yeah, take out the specifically video game stuff and Mass Effect would just be Star Trek with more expensive alien make up.

Comparing Lord of the Rings to Mass Effect is weird. The Lord of the Rings movies work because the source material has strong narrative and characters and whatnot.

Did I post in here about how Shunji Iwai is directing his English-language debut this year?

    http://www.fusedfilm.com/2010/05/cas...kristin-kruek/

Japanese cult film director Shunji Iwai is gearing up to film a new horror movie simply titled Vampire. According to Screen Daily, this will be the director’s first English language project. Keisha Castle-Hughes (The Nativity Story), Kristin Kreuk (Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li), and Rachael Leigh Cook (Kerosene Cowboys) have all recently signed onto the upcoming movie. Adelaide Clemens, Trevor Morgan, Kevin Zegers, Yû Aoi, and Amanda Plummer also round out the cast. Zegers is set to play a bloodsucking school teacher who likes to feast on suicidal young women, whom he falls in love with before each of their deaths. Shooting began last week in Vancouver. Vampire comes to theaters in 2011.
Seeing Iwai referred to as a "cult film director" (which he is in pretty much every one of the articles about this movie) makes me lol.

I've noticed that the majority of online movie news sites are not very familiar with non-cult Asian filmmakers, so they just assume if someone's known, he must be a cult director.

It wasn't really a direct comparison. Undeniably, the adaptation of Tolkien's novel, whenever it was going to come to pass, was always regarded as a monstrous undertaking, something guaranteed to fail. When people put their heart into it, great things can happen. I don't feel that Hollywood has put their heart in so far when it comes to adapting games.

Yeah, take out the specifically video game stuff and Mass Effect would just be Star Trek with more expensive alien make up.
Of course, but that doesn't have to be the case because a ME would still have writers, director and whatnot. Just because it would be similar to Star Trek doesn't mean that it can't have interesting characters, superb action scenes. Many movies have been derived from others. Fuck, it might even have a far better villain than the last Star Trek movie.

Your rating for Step Brothers is enough to turn Strong Bad into Strong Sad.

And I haven't seen a trailer for that movie, only a poster.
