Best case scenario, Spielberg makes something great and genuinely entertaining celebration of nerddom out of what's essentially published fanfiction.

Worst case scenario, it'll be something to enjoy for its ridiculousness and absurdity...for all the wrong reasons.

But that's a great trailer. Love the music.

I was thinking more along these lines:

Wryan: Wow this looks like shit
Skitch: It's supposed to, it's a kids movie directed by Spielberg.
Me: E.T. would like to have a word

Oh no, thats not how I meant at all!

SXSW seems to be loving it. But anything and everything works there.

Yep. I'm a little skeptical because festival reactions are often overblown. And Spielberg showed up in person, which says something.

I know we're anti-critic these days, but from non-fanboy critics reactions it seems to be at least decent, which still exceeds expectation from the supposedly toxic source novel and cringey promotional material. Honestly relieved because although I don't find them terrible, after past decade only containing Indiana Jones 4 and The BFG, I was wondering if Spielberg had forgotten how to do satisfying live-action blockbuster mode.
