    Preacher

First actor cast. Ruth Negga as Tulip.

Not a bad choice, but I guess this means she's leaving Agents of SHIELD.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

    What the fuck?

This is one case where the ethnicity of the character does matter - Tulip is supposed to come from a family of rednecks.

The only flashbacks with Tulip--that her dad was an outdoorsy guy who taught her hunting, and that the rich kids at her boarding school made fun of her for being a poor orphan--do not strike me as traits that are particularly ethnically specific.

I'm usually with you on this re: the ethnicity doesn't matter most of the time, but the characters in Preacher have such specific backgrounds, accents and appearance that I don't see the point in messing with that.

I mean, sure, you can do the same flashbacks with a black chick and it doesn't alter the story in any significant way... But I can't think of Tulip as a non-blonde. It would be like making Cassidy French or something.

I guess it would be better if she was younger, but my dream Tulip would be Téa Leoni.

EDIT: Oooops, she's almost 50. Definitively out of the age range.

Second person: Ian Colletti as Arseface.

Hah, they actually got a teenage actor.

The southern United States is chock-full of black rednecks. It's more of a poverty thing than a race thing.

Good point. I still can't get used to the idea, specially if Custer's gonna be Dominic Cooper as it was rumored.

It would be pretty funny if Jesse just leaves her behind when he goes on the road at the end of the pilot and that'd be her calling card as an actress.

I'm so terrified of this series. Everything looks and sounds as if they're going to fuck it up.

And we have no interest honestly in just doing a literal page-to-page adaptation.

I would have no interest in that, either.

A literal page for page version is the LAST thing I ever want to see in any adaptation.

Yes, Watchmen was a good/bad example of this.

Eh. The thing is, Preacher is already perfect as it is. I doubt there's a way to drastically improve the way that particular story is told and, if there is, come on, Seth Rogen ain't got it.

I'm already pissed off that Tulip is black and that there's a silly waitress character.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?
