Awesome. Highlights of said album for me: Water and a Seat, (Do Not Feed the) Oyster, Vanessa From Queens, Animal Midnight, Witch Mountain Bridge, 1% of One.Quoting krazed (view post)
Let me know what you think when you finish.
I couldn't agree more. I think Gulag Orkestar is their best album, but all three (if you include the EP) are wonderful. I listened to them for about 3 weeks straight almost without interrupting for something else. They just consumed me. "Canals of Our City" is so beautiful.Quoting origami_mustache (view post)
Jigsaw Falling Into Place-Radiohead. Really awesome stuff-I love the lyric "Words are sawed off shotguns" and the guitar/drum work in the background as well.

the Kinks - the Village Green Preservation Society
All of the critical/hipster hoopla made me forget that this album's highpoints are sublime.
I'm listening through M.I.A.'s Kala straight through. I've done this before and never liked it. Now I'm absolutely loving it. Weird how that works.
Wishful thinking, perhaps; but that is just another possible definition of the featherless biped.
Sympathy for the Strawberry, Sonic Youth
The best Youth song ever? For the next nine minutes, most definitely. Take that, Kim haters!

Amazing album so far.
The Verve - "A Man Called Sun"
Finally getting around to their EP's after Davis's repeated pimping, especially b/c he's one of the only people I've run into who also prefers A Storm in Heaven to their other full length's. Not surprised to find out this one's pretty great.

Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks - "Witch Mountain Bridge"Quoting Kurosawa Fan (view post)
This is a really cool album, it's a lot more focused than Real Emotional Trash; I like his stuff with the Jicks, it's spaced out and jammy without being annoying. I imagine this is what the last two Pavement albums (Terror Twilight, in particular) would sound like if Malkmus had complete control over the projects. He's coming to Dallas in April and I'll be there. Thanks for the recc!
No problem. Getting more people to listen to that album is a task I quite enjoy.
Damn straight. So incredibly insane (and vice versa.)Quoting Boner M (view post)

Windham Hell - Laceration of the Soul
A Storm in Heaven is fantastic, lightyears ahead of their subsequent releases. Even in terms of production it dwarfs their other releases. It is such a dense album, full of amazing instrumentation, and everything is nestled perfectly within the stereofield. It's one the best produced albums I've ever heard. And the songs kick major ass too - no freaking cheesy ballads.Quoting Derek (view post)
The suffered the same curse as a lot of bands that "mature": sonically, they became less interesting.
A Man Called Sun is an awesome song. So is Gravity Grave.
They released an Oasis pack for Rock Band a while back. very cool. Although, I wish it had Supersonic.Quoting dreamdead (view post)
Archers of Loaf - Harnessed in Slums
How come I never hear them mentioned among other 90s indie rock staples?
Listening to the new Why? album (probably my favorite band at the moment, yes). Pretty slick!
