It's really good. Somewhat inconsistent, but the high points are as good as any he has ever recorded.

If you enjoy the first track, check out Zola Jesus who is featured on it if you haven't already. She's much more darkwave-y with a lot of gothic touches than M83, but still keeps that same synth pop/dreamy aesthetic.

Why Mark Kozelek isn't one of the most popular song writers of all time will forever be a complete mystery to me. He blows all of his contemporaries out of the water.

I really want to find his AC/DC covers very soon. My friends on RYM keep proclaiming its amazing re-invention. I have to hear this, as I hate that band.

It's pretty good. Not a huge fan of the songs because they don't have Kozelek's lyrics, but he's a master of making a cover his own. The best ones I think are on the Red House Painter's album Songs for a Blue Guitar.

Lounge, surf music comprised of loops and samples; or if the Beach Boys had an MPC2000.

Thanks, D. I've loved all the Monster Rally links that you've posted. Lots of different influences from sources that I adore. A can't miss proposition!

They've got a brand new remix comp out as well - pretty good. More polished and electronic sounding, with some hip hop thrown in. It lacks a bit of the unique character of the originals, but still worth a listen.

So if the first track is any indication, M83's epic double-album is going to be something really special.
The first disc is awesome, the second is much more hit-or-miss. It's definitely EPIC - you've got that right.

Yeah - I agree. There are a few cool tracks on D2, but D1 is awesome.

Yeah great rec, Davis. Listening to it right now and it's making me seriously nostalgic for the simple little fun moments of life. I'm gonna put it on my iPod and listen to it the next time I go on a swing set.

    So pretty.
Wow! This album is just about all I've been listening to the past couple of weeks. A masterpiece. And since it got a 2011 release date in the US, it'll be making my best of for this year.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

I am surprised by how good it is. Perry looks really good, too.

Been drinking for two nights in a row. Consequently, Slowdive's Souvlaki has been getting a lot of play. Love this album very much. It's the dreamiest.

Good album. My second favorite from them, after Pygmalion.

Yeah, it's great, especially for when you're feeling a bit isolated. I still prefer the noisier shoegaze overall, but when in the right mood nothing is better. I mostly save it for winter. Loveless in the summer, Souvlaki in the winter.

I prefer Souvlaki, but I will say that Pygmalion is much more unique. I've never heard another album that sounds anything like it.
