He's a fucking national treasure! That whole live performance you posted is great.

His latest album of duets, For Better or Worse, is fantastic.

We used this as our walking-out song in our wedding:

Song for song, Prine brings me near-to-tears more than any other artist.

You know, he's not blessed with the finest voice, but I actually think that "flaw" endears me more to his work. I look forward to building on my meager collection (I have the duets album you mention -- it's fantastic).

These oxen couldn't be transported to anywhere else, so we had to built the entire studio around them. A scene that lasted twenty-something seconds took us a year and a half to prepare."

    Totally. It's earnest.

D, if your description of earnestness was in reference to the Sam Stone-era, or any of his early, groundbreaking work (with which I am sadly unfamiliar), I would totally agree.

The little bit of his later work that I am familiar with (seemingly more playful, complete with scruffy vocals and all) strikes me more as "I'm having a good time and my body of work speaks for itself, so fuck off". That's what I was referring to. I love that attitude. I just really get the feeling he's having the time of his life because (a) he survived the early years, and (b) he totally earned it.

I want to get his Great Days anthology.

Russ, I totally agree. Maybe earnest was the wrong word to use to describe his singing.

I think Bruised Orange might be my favorite of his earlier albums.

I'm such a sucker for this shit. I was scared he had called it quits.

    Pretty cool synth-wave stuff.

Getting a little tired of the sound, but he does it well.

I recently discovered this: Electronic System - Skylab (1974)

This is pretty much ground zero for all of this post-Air, retro-throwback synth stuff. Only, it was done in 1974.

It's basically all of Air's entire discography reduced to a single 10 minute track.

This is totally bad ass as well.

Loved that Snog track. David Thrusell has never failed to interest.

in the midst of everything else, this has been a good year for concerts. We saw Explosions in the Sky, Russian Circles, Wye Oak, and Hum, and have Japandroids, Kamasi Washington, and Devin Townsend Project lined up for the next two months (Kamasi and Devin back-to-back here in Athens).

That said, perhaps one of this year's best finds comes from Luke Temple, who opened for Wye Oak. This song is killer:

    The Boat People - 9
The Power of the Dog - 7.5
The King of Pigs - 7

Nice. I saw Devin Townsend Project last year. Incredible. He's such a great performer. Total old school showman, and his band is so good.
