It's been a few years since I last watched the first movie, but I don't recall it being nearly as mean spirited as this one is. The gag with the dogmobile actually was really funny, but that was about it. Can't say I exactly expected much, in any event.
My Letterboxd review:
I'm a huge fan of the original, but this wasn't nearly as good (no surprise). I think it's a bit of a combo of my sense-of-humor changing plus the movie falling flat about 50% of the time. There's also something weirdly sociopathic about Lloyd and Harry still behaving like this twenty years later (and well into their 50s). I can't tell if that makes the movie more interesting or not.
That said, I laughed quite a bit and having been to my share of tech conferences and wanting to "spazz out" (as Lars Von Trier called it in The Idiots) occasionally during them, I enjoyed their takedown of TED talks (here called KEN).
