I apologize if this was already posted but I couldn't find it.

I feel about this similarly to how I felt about Eastern Promises vs. A History of Violence. Cronenberg has done two consecutive films with some similarities in tone, actors and subject matter but the second one was ten times more palatable for me. I'm of course comparing this now to Cosmopolis. While not perfect (and I don't really like it as much as Eastern Promises) I feel like this is the more coherent satire on modern day relationships, wealth and Hollywood in general. It's particularly raw and unhinged, specially when it concerns Julianne Moore, who quite bravely portrays an aging actress in a constant mental and emotional breakdown. It's like her pharmacy scene in Magnolia stretched out to an entire film.

Olivia Williams catches fire / sets fire to herself. What was up with the CGI of that scene? Was it specifically intended to be laughable for some reason? It's like something out of a Mortal Kombat fatality.

It had a limited release here in Canada, but not in the US, apparently.

This is definitely a 2015 theatrical release in the US.
