    Ghostbusters (Paul Feig, Aykroyd-free)

It's official. A reboot with an all-female cast that will not be connected to the previous two movies.

I'm not thrilled by Feig and Dippold teaming up again, as The Heat was funny during the beginning but really broad and increasingly tedious.

I have no problem with an all-female cast.

I will feel weird about it not being in the universe of the other two. Will they still have proton packs and traps? Will they have an ectocontainment unit? Will they have a ghost-ambulance-police-car? These might seem like shallow matters, but they aren't to me. Ghostbusters is one of my most favorite things, and its iconography has become such a part of the culture.

Hmm, yeah I had no qualms about this direction when it was first rumoured, but really not sure what to make of it being confirmed as its own new unrelated tangent of sorts with the property.

I'm honestly fine with them doing something as hackneyed and nonsensical as when they bring back characters from the original incarnation but the new crew doesn't know who they are (which 21 Jump Street kinda mastered). The plot here could force some sort of inter-dimensional portal peek where we briefly see the original guys still at it in "our" universe. Awkward Ramis insertion or not (:sad. Murray has always been the hold-out, but only in a major role capacity. He's said if he was quickly killed off or something in the first act of a new one he'd be in.

They should just make a massive coffee-table book of all he unused scripts that had been developed for this over the years. It'd never happen, but at least you'd see different versions of the old and new being strung together, unofficial as it may now be.
Last 11 things I really enjoyed:

    Speed Racer (Wachowski/Wachowski, 2008)
    Safe (Haynes, 1995)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (Parker, 1999)
    Beastie Boys Story (Jonze, 2020)
    Bad Trip (Sakurai, 2020)
    What's Up Doc? (Bogdanovich, 1972)
    Diva (Beineix, 1981)
    Delicatessen (Caro/Jeunet, 1991)
    The Hunger (Scott, 1983)
    Pineapple Express (Green, 2008)
    Chungking Express (Wong, 1994)

So is this a reboot? Or simply a sequel in which the original ghostbusters have all since retired and moved on?

Okay... ideal female Ghostbusters crew... GO!

    IDEAL:
    Kristen Wiig
    Jane Lynch
    Aisha Tyler
    Aubrey Plaza

EDIT: Read more, and it's a reboot.

as their local supernatural exterminator rivals, no doubt. I would not mind this taking an Anchorman/Dodgeball turn in that way. Only under these casting circumstances, of course.

They're all free after this Spring! Take a note, Feig!

I hope they have Melissa McCarthy, and have her entire role be fat jokes! And have her always eating and talking about food, 'cause fat people eat a lot and that's really funny!!

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

It does seem like a fairly insipid project. But I'd rather see some of the names floating around here than I would Seth Rogen, James Franco, Michael Cera and Jonah Hill.

I just have a hard time believing that a girl could bust a ghost.

A complete redo is great because it offers us a glimpse of a world--unlike the world of an actual Ghostbusters III or the world we live in--where Ghostbusters II never happened.
