Apparently there was footage at comic con.

How is there already footage when there isn't even a director yet?

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

Well, it was all CG. Just dinosaurs on the island and Kong roaring in the middle of a rainstorm. All you need is a good VFX team, which they have.

I have decided that there should be a crossover between King Kong and A Christmas Carol.

Don't you want to see Tiny Tim riding around on Kong's shoulders?

I'm just hoping for a modern update of King Kong Escapes. Mechani-Kong for the win!

I love The Kings of Summer, but this will be a massive step up for him. Regardless, my interest is piqued.

I guess the key to getting picked as the director for a big franchise projects like this nowadays is to make an assured, high-concept but low-fi indie comedy (with at least one Parks & Rec / Community / New Girl star in your cast for extra clout!), hope it gets enough buzz for a Spielberg / big studio to notice it, and let a lightbulb go off in their heads that they won't have you pay you as much as the last person who found success helming a blockbuster like it. Basically I expect the Duplass Brothers to get their own Star Wars movie any day now.
Last 11 things I really enjoyed:

    Speed Racer (Wachowski/Wachowski, 2008)
    Safe (Haynes, 1995)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (Parker, 1999)
    Beastie Boys Story (Jonze, 2020)
    Bad Trip (Sakurai, 2020)
    What's Up Doc? (Bogdanovich, 1972)
    Diva (Beineix, 1981)
    Delicatessen (Caro/Jeunet, 1991)
    The Hunger (Scott, 1983)
    Pineapple Express (Green, 2008)
    Chungking Express (Wong, 1994)

    That's a big Kong.
“From the size of the skull, you can tell that things on this island are much bigger than audiences are used to with traditional Kong lore,” says director Jordan Vogt-Roberts. “Our Kong is by far the biggest Kong that you’ve seen on screen, and that translates to a lot of different things on the island. Peter Jackson’s Kong was around 25 feet. The ‘33 Kong ranged between 25 feet and 50 feet, I want to say he was 50-plus feet when he was on the Empire State Building. He varied in size dramatically! The ’70s Kong was somewhere between them. The thing that most interested me was, how big do you need to make [Kong], so that when someone lands on this island and doesn’t believe in the idea of myth, the idea of wonder – when we live in a world of social and civil unrest, and everything is crumbling around us, and technology and facts are taking over – how big does this creature need to be, so that when you stand on the ground and you look up at it, the only thing that can go through your mind is: ‘That’s a god.’”

Translation: We gotta beef him up big enough so that Gareth Edwards' 350-feet tall Godzilla can't just step on him in the crossover movie.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

As long as they keep him to scale enough that Godzilla is bumbling around like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man and Kong is crawling around on him like a goddamn Gremlin, I'll see the movie.

I should've used this one instead. It's the more direct reference.

Btw, Terry Notary (work on Tintin, both recent Planet of the Apes, Avatar, Hobbit and Warcraft) is filling in the Serkis shoes for Kong.

Looks intense. Some beautiful visuals, and even at this distance away from release, not too many overly CGI-looking shots.

    Jackson gonna be Jackson.
