To be fair, there's plenty of room on there.
Hey, look, it's that animation nut from RT.
But seriously, stick around (at least until RT 2.0 comes back).
How's the voice acting career going?

Perhaps the recent demise of RT and Icine will spur a minor renaissance to this place. I completely encourage the prospect.
Welcome, Alex. Post often.
That's pretty much my excuse for not staying the first time. When you moderate a board, you tend to spend most of your online time there.Quoting Watashi (view post)
It goes. I have an agent, but not a local agent. Of course, VO is the kind of industry where I don't need to physically be there, so that's no problem, but I still need an LA agent. Also, I've been doing stand-up, which is actually going pretty well.

Hey! I remember you! Great to see you back around here, I hope you stay!
I had no idea you were a voice actor!
May be a stupid/ignorant question (and my apologies!) but any tips for getting into the voice acting world?
I have a great voice, great range, and on-air radio experience.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"
"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
I've been seriously pursuing it for several years. For the sake of shameless name-dropping, I was recently hanging out with Carlos Alazraqui, Eric Bauza, and Fred Tatasciore. In fact, I have Fred on speed-dial.Quoting megladon8 (view post)
The thing that stands out the most to me in what you just wrote in "on-air radio experience". That's significant; that's something that will catch somebody's attention. That said, my first and foremost piece of advice is acting classes. If you haven't ever taken any, start; if you have, keep doing it. (I do.) The big mistake everybody makes coming into VA is that they underestimate the acting quotient. Even radio isn't really the same thing, so you definitely need to emphasize that aspect if you're going to seriously pursue this.
Secondly, know your voice(s). Great range is fantastic, but you need to know yourself and your voice most of all if you're going to sell it. There is such a thing as typecasting in voice-over, and if you understand it (and, by proxy, yourself), you can benefit from it. Then, when building your range, study everything. Study accents. Study other people. Study old movies, and use impressions of classic actors as a base for new characters. Study new movies, and learn what's out there and who you can sound like right now. Study commercials and see what the predominant styles are; there are actual trends in VO.
Finally, know your market, both style and geography. I'm in LA. The bulk of the work is here. But you can do it elsewhere, too, so start seeing what your local VO market is like if you're NOT in LA. It can be very good business-wise to become a big fish in a small pond.

Thanks for all the info, Alex! It's something I've been considering for a long time.
My voice is super, crazy deep. Like, a shade away from Michael Clarke Duncan. But I can also go very, very high.
I just have no idea how to go about applying for a job - getting a foot in the door. A good friend of mine is an animator for Disney, but has no connection at all with the voice recording side.
Again thanks for all the info! You officially have one of the coolest jobs
Welcome!
