Argentina basically did a 8-2 "don't lose" formation. Hoping that Aguero and Messi can do it on a dump was a horrible tactic in the second half. When Lavezzi was in the first half was when they had most of their chances.
Pretty boring game to end an otherwise great World Cup.
I'll happily take the World Cup Prediction Title for Match Cut.
I enjoyed the game. Argentina just didn't have the players to hang with the Germans over the long haul. The best team in the tournament won the Cup. Not much more you can ask for.

Kick him out of the game and instant penalty, at the very least. I mean, Suárez is still eating shit for doing something that's a hundred times less dangerous than what that animal did.

Have to agree with Grouchy, he punch/kneed him at full speed in the side of the head. There was absolutely no reason to have his second hand in a fist at his side, except to take the guy out.

Although as much as I was rooting for Argentina/Messi it was kind of funny to hear the announcer go all Hollywood with that final free kick. So much verbal build up for the shot and then just a terrible strike from Messi. He played well overall of course, gifted his teammates some amazing balls they could not capitalize upon.

It looked bad, and for sure Higuain wasn't the culprit here, but I have to wonder what a goalie, let alone one with what I assume to be a spotless rep as Neuer, would have to gain by actively trying to take a guy out, let alone during a moment that didn't represent a direct threat. Perhaps he panicked and felt he didn't want to take any chances. Which is still a foul of course and possibly worth a penalty, but the "he meant to take the guy out" explanation is a tricky one.

I don't see how it's tricky at all. He went for the ball and then also went for the guy. If he had missed the ball he would still have taken out the attacker. He managed to do both, the second one by smashing the guy's head in. If he had only gone for the ball he would have had both hands towards it.
It was a fairly direct threat. If Higuain had managed to get a head on the ball he could have scored.

If you're reaching for something do you always use both hands? Also, if you're a keeper going up with the intention of punching the ball, you're going to have both hands in fists because you're not entirely sure which way it's coming.
I don't but the "he punched him in the head" argument because on replay it didn't seem like there was any force behind his left hand. His hand was moving at the same speed as his body. It was an unfortunate collision, but it was a collision.
Also, I was rooting for Argentina.
It's also a moot point. The FIFA rulebook establishes that any "reckless play" that results in injury to a player must be penalized. Jumping the entire height of a guy to then apply a knee to his skull seems pretty reckless to me. It doesn't really matter what he was thinking or trying to do. And not only the referee didn't penalize Germany, the wanker decided to penalize us!
Also, K-Fan, I'm not saying that's why we lost. We lost because we didn't use the opportunities we got.
And if I'd had any sense of humor left by that point, I would've laughed too.
I'm torn about that free kick. On the one hand, Messi was under the kind of incredible pressure I can't even imagine. On the other hand, he earns more for his craft than the GDP of some countries.
I was hoping Messi would make that free kick. Would've been a top moment in all of sports had that happened.
