I bet he comes up with something new for his "last" movie. He desperately wants Best Director, won't get it this year, and knows that none of those projects is likely to get it for him. That "last" film narrative will be strong once it happens, if it's something respectable like Once Upon a Time.... He ain't winning an Oscar for Vega Brothers or Kill Bill Vol. 3.

I read a quote from him last week saying that he wasn't gonna direct Star Trek, but they might still use his story and he'd be down to give notes. Seems unlikely to happen.
    last four:
    black widow - 8
    zero dark thirty - 9
    the muse - 7
    freaky - 7

    now reading:
    lonesome dove - larry mcmurtry

Yeah, I figure that Star Trek idea is dead in the water by now.

He already has excuses at the ready if he does a Star Trek or Volume 3... Something like Star Trek is a franchise, so that doesn't count to his "ten films."

We'd also have to be curious at what "baddies" he can take on that are universally considered to be villains. He's taken on redneck racists, drug dealing murderers, wife killers, Nazis, Slaveowners, and the Charles Manson Gang...

    How about corporate America?

Would love to see his style and dialogue in a Wall Street / Mad Men type of film.

There was an interview where he mentioned about doing exactly that...

There is an umbilical cord from the tenth film to Reservoir Dogs, all the way to the end. I think that’s kind of cool

There's a long list of directors who say they're going to retire and then un-retire a few years later: Miyazaki Hayao, Steven Soderbergh, Tsai Ming-liang, Yoshida Kiju, arguably Ingmar Bergman (although his later films were all made for television).

The annoying thing about Tarantino--and this may have as much to with his media profile (which seems to require a level of constant self-promotion that makes Spike Lee look like a Kubrick-esque recluse) as it does my growing sense that Tarantino, however talented he may be as a filmmaker, is simply an insufferable man--is that he keeps talking about it, as if desperate to shape a posthumous legacy for himself before he even dies. Just do the work, or don't do the work and retire, and shut the fuck up about it. The world will go on without more Quentin Tarantino movies.

I'm also tired of hearing Tarantino publicly hustling for jobs he doesn't actually want (first a Bond film, now Star Trek) just because it's good publicity for him to be associated with blockbuster franchises. In fact, I suspect one reason he won't retire is he's much too compulsive a media hustler to willingly step out of the limelight.
    Just because...
The Fabelmans (Steven Spielberg, 2022) mild
Petite maman (Céline Sciamma, 2021) mild
The Banshees of Inisherin (Martin McDonagh, 2022) mild

The last book I read was...
The Complete Short Stories by Mark Twain

Tarantino isn't going anywhere. I'm almost positive he's gunning for a Netflix miniseries since he already sliced up The Hateful Eight into a series for them.
Ratings on a 1-10 scale for your pleasure:

    Top Gun: Maverick - 8
    Top Gun - 7
    McCabe & Mrs. Miller - 8
Crimes of the Future - 8
    Videodrome - 9
    Valley Girl - 8
    Summer of '42 - 7
In the Line of Fire - 8
    Passenger 57 - 7
Everything Everywhere All at Once - 6

I would be down with him making a mini series. In fact QT would be right at home in TV.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?
