Just to be clear, I'm not saying it's silly to get excited about the possibility of those monsters appearing in the sequel. I'm only commenting on the "announcement" itself, which many probably read as being more unequivocal than it actually it is.

Hard to imagine he's going to pump out a Star Wars movie in between. That's a tight schedule.
We have to wait that long? Darn.

Wasn't this already confirmed?
Probably, but that article is from Legendary Pictures, so consider it extra double confirmed now.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)

They didn't press release or give official dates yet. This is like when you set a time and restaurant for your date.
Looks like we got a release date for Toho's next Godzilla film, Godzilla Resurgence / Shin Godzilla:

Godzilla vs King Kong set as May 29, 2020.
No way does Edwards still direct this unless Rogue One is somehow some sort of disaster.
Last 11 things I really enjoyed:
Speed Racer (Wachowski/Wachowski, 2008)
Safe (Haynes, 1995)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (Parker, 1999)
Beastie Boys Story (Jonze, 2020)
Bad Trip (Sakurai, 2020)
What's Up Doc? (Bogdanovich, 1972)
Diva (Beineix, 1981)
Delicatessen (Caro/Jeunet, 1991)
The Hunger (Scott, 1983)
Pineapple Express (Green, 2008)
Chungking Express (Wong, 1994)
Would that be the King Kong from the Skull Island movie that's coming out?
I believe so! (Both Legendary Pictures, Thomas Tull, etc.)Quoting Ezee E (view post)
The only thing is that Edwards' Godzilla took place in modern day and I think I remember Hiddleston mentioning on Corden or something that Skull Island takes place during the Vietnam War, so not sure exactly when they'll choose to set the crossover.

Why? They're still adamant on one Star Wars movie a year, so it's not like we're getting a Rogue One sequel any time soon.Quoting Henry Gale (view post)

My theory is that contract negotiations with King Ghidorah continue to be lengthy and difficult, cuz if it's anything Monty Python has taught us, it's that one of the three heads will always be the contrarian.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)

I just feel like once he locks Star Wars, he'll be offered basically every major thing in development and maybe even find the clout for the even more enticing possibility of a studio giving him a virtual blank cheque to do something of his own. I don't doubt he'd still have some passion left for another Godzilla, I'm just not sure if it'll be the sort that keeps him on it in directorial capacity five years after the first.Quoting number8 (view post)
Then again, maybe they delayed it for him.

I honestly think Edwards would choose Godzilla 2 over doing another Star Wars, or most any other "big" movies.
Giant monsters are his passion. He's said so several times.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"

Thank you Henry! For someone who's so passionate about giant monsters, Godzilla sure sucked.
The severed arm perfectly acquitted itself, because of the simplicity of its wishes and its total lack of doubt.
