Great Scenes From My Movie Collection

As y'all know, I don't do 'Top Whatever' lists. I decided I'd try to post a few of my favorite scenes from my movie collection, along with a little bit of my special brand of commentary. Not sure how many I'll be able to post from work, it'll be easier when I'm at home and I can look at my DVD collection.

Stay tuned, noble viewers, stay tuned....

Alright, lets get this one out of the way.

For at least a decade, I slammed 2001. I routinely would say it was so boring that it made my eyes bleed, a collosal waste of time, etc....

During the last DeepDiscount movie sale, I decided I'd pick it up on Blu-Ray, along with another Kubrick film, that we might touch on later. I gave it a spin, and was officially blown away, and have been apologizing ever since. But I digress....

When the apes discover the monolith, I start getting goosebumps. As one of them picks up a bone and begins to learn how to use it as a weapon, the goosebumps really take over. I love this scene, I abso-freakin-lutely love this scene.

And now, for something slightly different:

    Friday the 13th, Part VI:

The opening scene is an absolute classic. Pity the movie was neutered by the MPAA. Anyways, the Frankenstein-esque accidental ressurrection of Jason is hilarious! The whole movie has a very tongue-in-cheek feel to it, and you can tell right from the beginning. If the opening scene doesn't do it for you, then the 007 style opening credits hopefully clue you in!

You do not fuck with Joe Pesci. Unless you bring a bunch of guys with baseball bats.

Awesome. I wonder why we will probably never see the uncut F13 films? It totally boggles my mind.

    The Shotgun Scene

If you've seen the movie, you know what I'm talking about. My friends recoilled in horror while I cackled with glee the first time we saw it. I think there might be something slightly off with my wiring.

For those who haven't seen it, here's a sorta non-spoiler version:

Its sad, really. I've read how much was cut from VI and VII, and it just makes you want to cry.

The last chunk of the movie.

The movie builds to the awakening of the big guy, and it is definately worth the wait. Once this bad-ass awakens to seek vengeance, no one is safe, and he dishes out his own vat of uber-pwnage on all who crosses his path.

A special thanks to bac0n for showing me this gem of a flick.

This flick rules! It's actually pretty freaky, and creepy. I love the atmosphere, it's so thick and oppressive.

This list is really cool, even though I've only seen one scene off it (the monkeys scene) which features one of the greatest moments of editing ever: [

Uber-Slo-Mo HD Shark Attacking a Seal

    Need I say more?

The documentary is loaded with awesome moments. Another favorite would be the footage of a snow leopard hunting. They certainly are nimble fuckers....

I love when Sammo Hung shows up in movies. It's always like "Haha that guy couldn't possibly HOLY FUCKING SHIT!"

Also, props for Planet Earth mention. That's a showstopper, and they were smart enough to put right in the introductory show to attract people.

Hah. Yes that's the proper term. I've been a bit rusty since I finished those film courses last year.

Dude a shake jumping up and chomping down on a seal is one of the coolest things ever. I also love footage of great whites jumping up out of the ocean. People can't believe that the big bastards can do it until they see it happen on camera. Then its like "Hot damn that's amazing."

    Daimajin looks pretty sweet.

    Le Mans

The last ten - fifteen minutes or so.

If you like racing movies or car chases, and haven't checked out Le Mans yet, do so immediately. The last ten minutes or so will have you on the edge of your seat.

    Terminator 2

    The Opening Credits

I have always loved the opening credits to T2. I have watched this movie an insane amount of times. Every single time the title 'slams down', I get goose bumps. And the terminator exoskeleton coming out of the fire is an awesome visual.

A little unfair. All of T2 is a "Great Scene." Whole damn thing.

But credits act as the warmup to the greatness, so I can dig it.

Yeah. T2 is practically a collection of "great scenes," only it's one movie.

    Barbarian - ***
    Bones and All - ***
    Tar - **

Word. I've seen it so many times I've lost count and it rocks hardcore each viewing.
