I don't really like the movie as it was in theatres, but between that theatrical version, the Unrated version, the Super-Sized R-Rated Cut and the plethora of deleted scenes and alternate versions of every line, storyline and character beat, I've basically amalgamated them in my mind into a movie I'm pretty okay with.

But no, I don't expect anyone else to want to go through this. I just think whatever rushed filming and post-production of making it and subsequent weird test screening and editing processes pushed Ferrell and McKay's sensibilities off course. They shot a decent sequel, and then way too much more, and then misjudged what was the best of it. Needless to say that Blu-ray is insanely well put together, though.
Last 11 things I really enjoyed:

    Speed Racer (Wachowski/Wachowski, 2008)
    Safe (Haynes, 1995)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (Parker, 1999)
    Beastie Boys Story (Jonze, 2020)
    Bad Trip (Sakurai, 2020)
    What's Up Doc? (Bogdanovich, 1972)
    Diva (Beineix, 1981)
    Delicatessen (Caro/Jeunet, 1991)
    The Hunger (Scott, 1983)
    Pineapple Express (Green, 2008)
    Chungking Express (Wong, 1994)

Wow, so this was a huge disappointment. What provoked McKay to film so many wide angle sweaty close ups of people? Damn weird. A few jokes landed - I liked people's quiet confusion over the extent of Ron's blindness - and I like the idea that Burgundy singlehandedly created modern 24 hour "news." But God, so much that simply doubled down on the original's jokes instead of trying to track down its own inspirations. For all the commenters here saying this feels like an entirely different approach, I couldn't disagree more. This is the original, only 100 decibels louder.

So inept. It made no sense why Linda Jackson would ever bring Ron to visit her family. Those scenes, however, did go far enough into awkwardness to reward the idiocy. Otherwise, this is all essentially a compromise to make people a lot of money--all the women here feel so incredibly underdeveloped, lusting after men who possess no redeemable characteristics.

Blerg. One of the worst film I've seen this year.
    The Boat People - 9
The Power of the Dog - 7.5
The King of Pigs - 7
