Strong performances and important subject mask a weak script, but only barely. It made me long for a dramatization of How To Survive A Plague by a filmmaker with a very tangible connection to the AIDS epidemic and the fight for action by the FDA.
It's alright. I like Matt I guess and can't say there's anything inherently bad.
Rent it. The bland as fuck filmmaking drags the performances down bit by bit. McConaughey is good, but he was way better in Mud and Magic Mike. Jared Leto is probably a little overrated for putting on a dress and being sassy. []

The Butler is easily the most bait-y movie of the year. Dallas Buyers Club is close, though.
It went a little over the top and baity in the last act but I was with it for the first two thirds.

Hopefully I'll have the energy to update my signature soon.
Solid movie, but yeah, way too many Oscar moments near the end. Lately I find that whenever I watch a biopic I find myself wishing to read a non-fiction book or watch a documentary on the same subject instead.
It's pretty amazing how much Matt has grown on me as an actor, though.
Philomena is more bait-y.
