I liked this better than the first. It went full bore sci-fi fantasy explosion that I wanted from the first.
The consensus seems to have largely deemed this a mediocre bridge between The Avengers and its inevitable sequel, but I agree with you that it's a good deal of fun, superior to the original because it feels more confident about its setting and characters, as are the actors embodying them.

    Very meh.

I loved that it became totally gonzo cosmic, indicating the tone the franchise(s) are taking on for Phase 2.

Visually pretty neat, loved the world and monster designs.

But the story is completely throwaway, ending with everything back to status quo.

    Entertaining, and absolutely nothing more.

The attack on Asgard was really lame.

My favorite moment in the film:

    I very much agree.

    I very much agree.

I wish the humour in these films was more of this variety. Just completely unassuming, not even remotely calling attention to itself.

Although that's probably not an Ikea coat rack.

There's quite a lot of it in the movies so far. Whedon managed to sneak in a few moments in Ultron in the most unexpected places.

It's gotten better. The Avengers was really an eye opener for me. A superhero film funnier than actual comedies. Seeing Ultron tomorrow!

Solid but a tad unimpressive in many areas. This and The Incredible Hulk are my least favorite Avengers universe films so far.

Finally finished this after two false starts, one on a flight home, the other a late night cable effort that put me to sleep. The climax is fun, for sure, and maybe the only source of fun for me. The flick isn't terrible, but it is kind of awful in terms of how rote and consumptive it is. The mom's death is a big so what, a plot turn first and an emotional scene second or third or not at all. Eccleston isn't even there, poor guy. Yes, the film crutches on Loki, but thank God, because he's more interesting than anybody else. The spectacle has some solid art direction, but Taylor's direction felt non-existent. The climax is fun though. Favorite bit was when the characters shout Jane! Selvig! Darcy! And then Mjolnir whooshes by, and Darcy shouts Mjolnir! like he's just another character.
