With Breaking Bad on track to be the best season on TV ever, for me at least, what are some of the best TV Seasons you've ever seen? What else has been perfect or close to perfect? Why?

I'll get an obvious one out of the way:
The best season of the Wire to me. This had me invested in characters in a way that a movie could never do it. You never really know what can happen in a moment on the show either...
Now that that's been nominated,
The Simpsons Seasons 2-6.
You're welcome.
Sure why not?
STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI (Rian Johnson) - 9
STRONGER (David Gordon Green) - 6
THE DISASTER ARTIST (James Franco) - 7
THE FLORIDA PROJECT (Sean Baker) - 9
LADY BIRD (Greta Gerwig) - 8

Since The Wire Season 4 has been taken: Mad Men Season 5 & Deadwood Season 2
All great, but I couldn't separate one season from the next.Quoting Watashi (view post)
I just finished Season 4 the other day (first time watch) and yeah it's pretty amazing.Quoting Ezee E (view post)

The first thing that came to mind was Dexter: Season One. Haven't seen the subsequent seasons because it got dropped from Netflix, but that season was one solid amazing story.

Completely on board with The Wire S4 and Mad Men S5.
I add Buffy S5 -- The Body and The Gift are my top 2 episodes of the entire series. Not the most classic main story arc/villain the show had, but the tightest, most consistent in quality. SMG's best work.
Spoilers in video
For me, a recent one since others have been mentioned (especially Wats' Simpsons seasons, though I'd include Season 7):
Building and building to an impeccable reveal. That season was so seamless.
The Boat People - 9
The Power of the Dog - 7.5
The King of Pigs - 7
Lost Season 4. So much greatness and the show benefited from having a strike shortened season.
Also I'll take Season 8 of The Simpsons over Season 4. Its close though. Both have plenty of amazing episodes.

Season 5 of the simpsons for me. Season 4 of Lost.
Seasons one and two of Arrested Development.
Wasn't that the season they were trapped in cages for like 13 episodes? That would be one of the worst seasons ever for me.Quoting Thirdmango (view post)
This. (Oddly enough, season 5 of Supernatural was also its best season, and totally great television-- although I'm not sure it would rank with the best seasons of anything ever.)Quoting Lucky (view post)
Many of the ones I would mention have already been said... so...
How about The Office UK season 2?
And The West Wing season 2.
...and the milk's in me.
They were trapped in a cage for 6 episodes in S3. S4 is the first season they did the flash forwards. It contains many of the show's best episodes.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)

Great television that's short and sweet and standalone: Torchwood - Children of Earth.

Heh I was exaggerating with the 13 episodes but 6 sounds just as bad.
I had very mixed feelings about Children of Earth. I think Torchwood Season 2 is much better.Quoting number8 (view post)

Contagion (Soderbergh, 2011) - 6.5
The Descendants (Payne, 2011) - 7.5
Midnight in Paris (Allen, 2011) - 5
Margin Call (Chandor, 2011) - 6.5
The Ides of March (Clooney, 2011) - 5
I'd say seasons 3-5 of The Next Generation, season 3 of Babylon 5 and the one and only season of Cowboy Bebop.

"We eventually managed to find them near Biskupin, where demonstrations of prehistoric farming are organized. These oxen couldn't be transported to anywhere else, so we had to built the entire studio around them. A scene that lasted twenty-something seconds took us a year and a half to prepare."
