I want to rant about Wasteland 3, but man I'm tired.
Why is it that cRPGs get a free pass on the most tired, hackneyed story elements that would get absolutely skewered if they showed up any other medium? I mean the usual action movie trope garbage, the boilerplate sci-fi dystopias, the cheap gangster machismo, and lame attempts at "satire."
How does a pro such as Brian Fargo, with ~30 years experience in the industry, lift major gameplay elements from X-Com but not understand what made those elements successful? (How they fuck does anyone play X-Com and not realize permanent character death and huge doses of RNG lent every mission some very heavy and immediate stakes?)
How long before studios stop ripping off X-Com (and Dark Souls, for that matter) and actually, I dunno, do something interesting and creative?

Having spent the weekend pricing PC components, it's absolutely insane to me these machines will sell so cheaply. You could literally not build your own box with these specs at these price points.

XBOX seems much more interested in pushing subscriptions than even the new consoles themselves. Half that article revealing the price points was about them heavily pushing subs.
I'm being half sarcastic, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised at all if they start making the monthly sub a required component of playing the games that you also have to pay full retail for.

Stadia tried this and failed spectacularly.
It's more likely the PC/ console ecosystem will continue to balkanize, e.g.: everybody will have their own version of GamePass and their games will be exclusive to that platform. Sorta a combo of like what Sony and Epic already do.
Anyway, GamePass is the primary reason I'm hyped on XBox. I've downloaded and played so many games I wouldn't otherwise given a chance. (Like, I never would have paid retail to try out Ori and the Blind Forest, Wasteland 3, or Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.)
I've still got shit like Nier Automata, Plague Tale, and Hellblade waiting on me, with a dozen more titles sitting on my hard drive that I haven't had time to play. This was all included in the sub, no additional cost to me. Every month there's something new and interesting to try out. Can't beat that.
I'm pretty sure I've spent more $$$ on Switch games than XBox games but I've had more use out of the XBox. In terms of hours played for dollars spent, GamePass has been incredible.

Unless I read something different, they’re pushing financing the new XBOX’s, which is something they can do with current models as well, and the subscription service is built in. A CNN article showed that it was cheaper to finance the BOX then buy it outright and get the subscription service separate.

No, it's $25 a month for 24 months, which is actually cheaper than buying the console and GamePass separately. So Microsoft is giving you a 2 year, no interest loan and charging you less for the box and the service.
Not a bad strategy during a pandemic and mass unemployment.
I predict (a) Microsoft is unprepared for the level of interest in the Series S, and is (b) lying to themselves about how much they're about to cannibalize their own sales.
They already do this with the current Xbox consoles. It's called the All-Access program. $25 a month for two years to own the console, and you get Gamepass for those 24 months as well. It's a good option for people who can't afford to splash on a big purchase like that, and you even save money in the long run. It's a good option all around, really.
