Underrated? Swanberg metes out the dramatic "events" with aplomb, even if awash in all the dutiful improvisation. Mumblecore + bigger budget does not exactly equal cinematic gold, more so stylistic conformity or anonymity, but the bigger catch here is Swanberg getting to create his romantic stories pristinely and purely, without the aesthetic crap game of DIY filmmaking. It works, because this story is an ingenious reversal on romantic norms. Ending was perfect, thank god.
