Walt's about face is fine and makes perfect sense for the character. He's seen The Godfather. He knows how these things go. The business is important to him but family is just as important. So when Skylar gives him a point of entry back into her life last season, at that point he had everything else he wanted in terms of power and finance so he seized the opportunity.

There were plenty of shots of Walt looking vacant and lost last season while he was on top of the world. Gilligan laid the groundwork quite well.
I thought it was made abundantly clear that he's just acting, just playing the part of the reformed nice guy. The dude hasn't been genuine since the first season, why should we think he is now?

He's not reformed or nice but he still has needs and desires and foremost among those is having his family back for his own selfish reasons. Hence why he left the business and tries to make things work with Skyler and why he says to Hank 'that's not going to happen' in regards to his family.

I assumed when people referred to his about face they were talking about him giving up the business. He has done this but he definitely hasn't now morphed into some pushover. He still revels in power and control.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

Skylar and Hank in the cafe was one of the highlights of the entire series. I have my problems with the show, but damn if I'm not sitting on my couch watching it as soon as it airs.

This was one of those episodes where you're like, "They ARE NOT GOING TO END THIS WHEN HE GOES INTO THE INTERROGATION ROOM..."

    OH HELL NAH!!!!!!!!

For a transitional episode, this was quite masterfully done. Surely there'll be one blip in the season?

I need to rewatch this episode. I didn't enjoy it, but I couldn't hear it. Half the episode was whispered, and I couldn't turn it up because the rest of it was loud and I watch while my family sleeps. I don't think I caught a word of dialog spoken by Skylar and only half of what Hank said.
    *coming soon*

That's why I love subtitles. I have problems with characters whispering, particularly if there is background music.

It's about time Dean Norris got nominated (hoping this is the case).

Who knew the cliche cop character from season one would progress like this? He was the worst thing about the show initially.

So far it's relented once per episode with a double act comedy bit. First Badger and Pete's Star Trek discussion, now Bill Burr and Huell channeling Scrooge McDuck.

Both scenes were hilarity in full.

I've actually noticed this about the show in general. The audio is recorded with a very high dynamic range. While this works well with music, I do find it annoying with television shows. Even with the compression on my television turned on, I often find that I have to play with the volume during episodes of Breaking Bad more so than with any other television.

I'm watching this current season on my iPad, with headphones, so it hasn't been a problem.

I knew it! That super-haunting tune as Walt is burying the money is from one of our musical geniuses, José Larralde.
