I've always found it too generic for the universe. Seems kitbashed.

So after under-performing its opening weekend, WB officially changed the name of the movie to Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey.

Numbers on Birds of Prey would only really matter if organizations like WB only cared about singular films. They most likely don't. They have a board of tools that look at overall numbers for the year, and somewhere in there is a semi-low budget Joker movie that made over a billion dollars.

    Narrated by David Attenborough.

I try to never be one of those shitass morons who freak out about pre-production stuff (I absolutely called everyone who shit on Ledgers Joker early on an idiot), but to this I say BLECH. I've been cool with every single pre-production thing I've heard about this film thus far, but this video...I hope this to get an early react and they decide to NOT do this. Bat symbol looks like a drone thing hes gonna pull off his chest and his mask looks like Batman & Robin-level cheese factory.

I'm not gonna freak out, I'm not gonna freak out, this is nothing...

It doesn't look good at all and, like Skitch says, it's the first real bummer pre-production glimpse we've had about this. Why can't anyone learn from the batsuit in Snyder's films? One of the few good contributions he did.

I remember when that very similar Cavill/Geralt of Rivia test came out and people's wigs were popping off in anxiety. Turned out fine.

I love it! And that score is awesome too!
Last Five Films I've Seen (Out of 5)

And Then We Danced (Akin, 2020) 4.5
The Turning (Who Cares, 2020) 0.5
The Invisible Man (Whannell, 2020) 4.5
    Emma. (de Wilde, 2020) 3.5
What She Said: The Art of Pauline Kael (Garver, 2020) 3.5

The last movie I saw in a theater before the apocalypse was Cats.

    Let that sink in.

    Budget: 84 million
    Release: 7 days
    International: 154 million

Tired of articles calling Birds of Prey a bomb. It may not be lighting the world on fire, but its gonna be just fine.

  17. #2842
They call it a bomb because it opened soft in North America and it's probably losing money for the studio.

I don't think audiences are terribly interested in genre movies sporting all-female casts ("Ghostbusters 2016," "Oceans 8," etc). The audience will turn up if a young, hot woman is in the lead & surrounded by dudes tho. ("Wonder Woman, "Captain Marvel," etc.)

One thing I do think is disingenuous: Those articles rarely mention if the movie opened in China, which can make a big difference.

I know. That was sorta my point.

I mean, they can call it a bomb or whatever sure but when you do that, I think you're obligated to say "but then the movie also hasn't opened in China."

People tend to regard these films as the same level as the Marvel ones, but that's always a big difference in box office: afaik, the Marvel ones always play in China.

It did. And as I've said before, I'm sick of US entertainment media acting like US numbers are be all end all. The fucking studios themselves market to international audiences, media needs to catch on.

and it's probably losing money for the studio.
I think its early to say that.

I think audiences attend blockbusters if they think they look good and skip them if they look bad. It's only silly people making statements on the internet that are stuck counting the amount of women in a particular cast.

Nah, these movies are all frontloaded. Their campaigns are designed around opening weekend. Granted, some films can pick up with word of mouth, but I don't think "Birds of Prey" is one of them.

I didnt say it wasnt designed to be front loaded, or that its gonna have legs. All I'm saying is that when a movie essentially doubles its production budget before its double digit in release days it shouldn't have articles calling it a bomb. That's it.
