Can't deny skepticism over the idea that Ghost Rider 2 has more narrative depth than, say, Nolan's trilogy.
But still, I am eager to see it sometime.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"
"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
Ghost Rider 2 is terse. Pithy next to Nolan's verboseness. Of course by virtue of length Nolan's films are gonna dig up more dirt. But Ghost Rider is about something as much as Begins is and certainly makes more sense than Rises. It's tight, has creative setpieces, yes - a Cage dialed to 11, and an economic sensibility that's way more attractive than the mounted presentations of all the other Marvel films.Quoting megladon8 (view post)
It's also goofy, which I guess some people call stupid...
Spirit of Vengeance is somewhat better than the Mark Steven Johnson one, and I kind of agree with Sven that it does contain some visual ingenuity to it (though a lot of those moments were disappointingly heavily showcased and spoiled as big trailer moments that take the title character's abilities to its absolute extremes), but the movie really doesn't have much else to it. It has so many bizarre effects ideas and metaphysically enhanced montages and possession sequences, but they just randomly pop up in an otherwise bland, oddly cheap-looking religious cult thriller of sorts. It's an absolutely turgid script with no coherence to it, and even Neveldine/Taylor (who I do kinda love) don't know how to make any of it feel interesting or even superficially exciting.
And I never thought I'd ever want tell Cage to tone it down, as he's definitely going all out in it, but so much really doesn't have any good or organic purpose to it. It's like someone yelling and screaming in a wallpaper store. Sure, he's possessed, but the movie tries to find ways of him being stuck in a halfway possession where Cage can turn on the crazy, because it seemingly realized the inherent problem of the Ghost Rider character on screen is that it completely obscures the actor's abilities once he turns.
I'm surprised I remember this much about the movie, to be honest.

I think this movie will be as bad as all other Zack Snyder movies. Which is bad.
That one shot alone basically telegraphs an entire uninspired, boring-ass third act.
Kudos to whichever production-house edited the first trailer. Gave this film at least a few months of life before reality set in.

Let's not get too wild about how Marvel has had success. Iron Man 2 was being written as it was in production. It wasn't really until Whedon got on board that the stories happened to get a little more organized, and well done.
Henry Gale is right about the business perspective, as annoying as it is. Hopefully they can find someone to do Flash or Wonder Woman that can impress everyone.
Man of Steel was a huge success, so I don't see them changing tunes as far as story goes. Batman VS. Superman will be a lot more dialog-driven, I imagine.
I really only care about the casting of Batman.
It wouldn't happen in a million years, but I want Rosario Dawson for Wonder Woman.

I also want Rosario Dawson.

I'm all for goofy. We need more goofy superhero movies.
It's why I'm most looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy. I hope they capitalize on the totally nutso, gonzo ideas. I want a superhero movie that's Jack Kirby put on film.
