    Well, shit went to shit

    Hey y'all,

In case you're wondering what happened, one of my articles blew up and got like a stupethousand hits in a short matter of hours, which hammered the host server into submission, so they put a temporary block on the site.

I signed up for a service that will hopefully alleviate the stress away from the host, and right now we're just waiting for it to kick in. By the time you're able to read this, it'd probably be solved already and the block lifted. So I'm just writing this to inform what happened.

I've known for a while that sooner or later I'd have to upgrade to a dedicated server or something, though, which costs money. I've joked about monetizing the forum in the past, and I'd rather pay for the forum myself than have it littered with ads, but serious question this time. If I put one ad banner at the very bottom of the page (like, maybe right above the "hosted by artboiled" image), would it ruin the Match Cut experience for anyone? Obviously you'd have to disable adblock for this site. Because I think with the frequency of the users and the number of threads we have, one ad should be enough, but I don't want even that one ad to be a dealbreaker to any of the regs.

    Lemme know. I'm just spitballing.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

As long as they're safe for work ads, it should be fine.

Also, if you need money to offset costs, I'm sure a lot of us would be more than willing to pitch in. I've done so in the past, happy to do so again.

Heh, I never even noticed that Hosted by at the bottom, I never scroll down past the lowest forum. Wouldn't bother me to not see an ad down there. Better than seeing unavailable message 14 times in one day.

They're contextual ads, so it's most likely going to be movie trailers and such.

    I'm game.

And I second the inquiry about the article.

It's funny I had just started going through my Wu-Tang thread fixing all my youtube embeds and replacing with the new video link. I had went through the first 3 or 4 pages fixing like 50 videos and then the site crapped out. I thought I had broke it.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

Glad to know everything is all right.

And congrats on the traffic on your reviews, Ary!

Yeah, that's not intrusive at all. Even the coloring matches.

*chuckle* Well, my cardio has always been shit. My cardiologist (had open heart surgery age 2.5) has even said that you'll never have the endurance of your peers, blah blah blah. Sounded like a challenge to me!

That would defeat the purpose.

I'm just glad the site is back. I was going through withdrawals and I thought I was going to have to start posting on RT fulltime again. Whew.

PS: I see ads on RT all the time. If it means the site survives, then I'm all for the whole ad thing. As long as I don't get bombarded with ads for some shitty movie that Duke will have already posted the trailer for in the Upcoming Films thread :P

one of the new ads is for me, it's 3M. When I first made the name Thirdmango a great many years ago I would abbreviate it 3M completely unaware of the giant manufacturing company.
