The premise of the film is, to be quite blunt, literally soporific. Can't really recommend the film, as it becomes painful to watch at times while you ponder if there is at all a point or greater arc to this plodding conceptual exercise, but Resnais does manage to create magic now and again, and there is worth in (PLOT SPOILER) seeing three different generations of casts act out/interpret an Orpheus and Eurydice play that does manage to take over your interest and emotions at one point (though to what ends do the play-within-the-film's thematic points relate to the whole conceptual piece, that takes some digging).

Like all of Resnais' work, how memory effects reality is a big theme.
